Pelosi Calls on DOJ to Investigate Priebus For 'Trying to Pressure the FBI' on Trump-Russia Stories

Source: Mediaite

by Justin Baragona | 12:57 pm, February 24th, 2017

Following a report by CNN that White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus attempted to get the FBI to “knock down” recent media stories regarding communications between Trump associates and Russia, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on Priebus to be investigated.

In a statement released today, the former Speaker of the House claimed that the White House had “been caught trying to pressure the FBI into undermining a vital national security investigation into the explosive ties” between Trump allies and Russian intelligence officials.

After stating that “political interference” into FBI investigations is a “grave abuse of power,” Pelosi requested the Department of Justice probe the WH Chief of Staff.

White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus has committed an outrageous breach of the FBI’s independence. Priebus has not only damaged his reputation but tainted the impartiality of the FBI. The Department of Justice’s Inspector General must open a new investigation into any and all conversations Priebus and other White House officials held with the FBI on ongoing investigations. Congress must also launch an independent, bipartisan commission to ensure the American people get the facts free from the Trump Administration’s meddling. The American people deserve to know the truth.

branches. There are several divisions of IG each has a sphere of oversight.
4 of them came before a congressional committee recently and asked for subpoena power to investigate the FBI who are no longer active and are possibly involved with the email scandal and thought to talk to Guiliani. As it stands, if the person in question doesn't want to talk to them, they have no recourse without subpoena power. It looks like they might get it.

What makes you think that House Speaker Eddie Munster, or any House GOP Committee Chairman will allow that?

Chaffetz?..I don't think so.

You may believe what you want to believe.

I am not sure I believe this either.

There is an alternative story out there that Comey couldn't ignore the emails they found because if he did then later when the investigation into Trump was finally ready to be prosecuted it might come out and spoil the case.

Some say the extra emails were a Russian plant.

The stories about Comey say he's a stand up guy playing it straight.

I don't know. But it's made me question his real role in all of this.

In 2006 when you said impeachment was off the table, that's what allowed to Republicans to continue their criminality.

The last sentence in the Mediaite article is important:

"Meanwhile 'some legal experts' feel the White House is guilty of obstructing justice based on these direct communications with the FBI."

I wonder who the "some legal experts" are?
(When I click on "some legal experts" I get a "failure" notice)

If Priebus or anyone else in the Trump White House tried to interfere with an FBI Investigation, that is clear Obstruction of Justice. That is one of the charges that really stuck against Nixon during the Watergate Scandal and helped cause Nixon to resign.

Pelosi is right on target with this. Congressional Dems need to pursue this publicly and relentlessly. I think this might be the beginning of the downfall of the Trump Regime. If Priebus interfered with the FBI Investigation, it is likely that Trump was aware of it, maybe even directly behind the action.

High Crimes and Misdemeanors.

but that was a Democratically-controlled Congress.

Here, we have a Republican-controlled Congress, which will NEVER allow a thorough, independent FBI investigation, so Trump will continue to do whatever he wants, and so will Priebus, and so will Bannon, and on and on..

The only hope in this case is if the DOJ's Inspector General can somehow get subpoena power, and do a truly impartial investigation of Pelosi's claims.

But even if we can not get action out of the Republican Congress, the Dems need to keep this topic alive and in the Media. In doing so, we can use this Issue for all our Candidates to use in the 2018 Elections. "Impeach Trump" for Obstruction of Justice should be a slogan and battle cry for 2018. Republicans who do not pursue charges for Obstruction of Justice will be complicit in the Crime.

"Impeach Trump" for Obstruction of Justice would make a good "slogan and battle cry for 2018."

Also, crowds of protesters yelling "Lock Him Up..Lock Him Up..Lock Him Up" would be great, imo.
