Thousands more Fort Bragg troops deploying to bolster anti-Islamic State efforts

Source: Fayetteville Observer

More than 2,500 Fort Bragg paratroopers will soon join the rest of their unit in the fight against the Islamic State.

The soldiers, belonging to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, are expected to deploy to Kuwait, where they will support members of the brigade already advising and assisting Iraqi troops in defeating the Islamic State.

The troops will support operations to liberate western Mosul in Iraq and also could be involved in similar operations in Syria.

“The remainder of the brigade will be leaving Fort Bragg, going to Kuwait to be postured there to do all things Mosul, Raqqa, all in between. So the whole brigade will now be forward,” said Lt. Gen. Joseph Anderson, the U.S. Army’s deputy chief of staff, G-3/5/7.

The cost is so high. I think of more refugees created that will not have places to receive them.

and thought they confused "Syria" with "Kuwait".

Sigh...

Back to the budget-busting "supplemental appropriations" that are off the budget books and drain the treasury while being "hidden in plain sight".

Sounds like the build up prior to taking the city

Probably looking at this as a knockout punch to the ISIS capitol, but likely to only scatter them to rebuild in multiple locations creating multiple fronts.

Likely to invoke the Powell rule, "we break it, we own it".

They've been flying over my sister and parent's houses almost every night-- I'd say you're about right with your estimate.

It was something like 5 support troops for every 1 fighter.

They still have five support troops for every fighter, but most of them will either remain at Fort Bragg or be civilians.

An aside: when Obama first got elected, some right-winger who'd never served was screaming at me about gays in the military, and this little beauty came out..."how much do you think it'll hurt morale if the troops think the guy in the next foxhole is gay?" I looked at this asshole..."not nearly as much as knowing the cook is making more from this war than the colonel."
