Fired US attorney invokes shuttered New York corruption panel in tweet

Source: The Hill

Preet Bharara, one of the most high-profile federal prosecutors in the country who was fired Saturday by President Donald Trump, tweeted Sunday that he now understood what the “Moreland Commission” felt like.

Bharara’s tweet appears to be a jab at Trump; some interpreted his reference to the commission as suggesting the president fired him because he was looking into possible corruption in the administration.

The Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption focused on investigating possible corruption activities in New York. Bharara, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, ran it until Gov. Andrew Cuomo shut down the anticorruption panel while it was investigating allegations that the Democratic governor interfered with one of its investigations.

Many belive the powerful politician dismantled the Moreland Commission for investigating him.

Of course we're no better than any tribal/nationalist group.

We like US, we don't like YOU.

Question might be is how does a soviet-funded narcissist self-promoted bully become US?

Is it just a creation of some media? With lots of help from external friends?

I don't think we've ever seen any reporting about the reality of this disaster.

Somewhere at one of the ussr/trump bunkers there are a bunch of people raising drinks celebrating how they were able to destroy their major competitor with a few nicely placed press reports and a dimwit to represent their interests.

Does anyone have the movie rights for this horror show? It'll be a hit in 200-300 years if anyone gives a shit.

I have followed his career carefully, and I was sick when I heard he was fired.

However, do not underestimate him. He knows where the bodies are buried. There will be blowback.

7. Making DT fire him sends a signal, "I'm taking you on."

When he delayed his resignation, I was hoping he was going to stand up and make DT fire him. What an honor.
I hope many Dems, and even some Repubs, are watching and take a clue of how to stand up to this bully.

There are many state offices where he could take on DT, plus DC.

Are you saying a state governor shut down a US attorney's investigation? I don't think so. And US attorneys don't 'run' state commissions on crime and corruption. We need some clarification on your post.

6. You're right; that part of this report was inaccurate and the US attorney didn't run the commission.

The US attorney investigated after Gov. Cuomo shut down the commission, but the Federal attorney eventually closed the case.

According to Politico, Bharara investigated Cuomo’s shut down of the Moreland Commission for 17 months.

Politico reported that Bharara said at the time that closing the commission was “premature” but that “absent any additional proof that may develop, there is insufficient evidence to prove a federal crime.”

Politico reported that Bharara’s office seized the commission’s records in 2014, “promising to pick up where the commission left off” and quoted him as saying, “We continue to have active investigations related to substantive inquiries that were being conducted by the Moreland Commission at the time of its closure.”

However, in the end, Bharara closed the probe. Columbia University quoted a law professor who was on the Commission as saying of Cuomo: “He all but disbanded the commission by press release.”
