The Trump slump? Tourists say they're scared to visit the United States

Source: MSN/LA Times

"Even white, Anglo-Saxon people, who are most of our customers, they are afraid of crossing the border," lamented Al Qanun, manager and part-owner of the travel agency. "They don't want to end up in some prison."

The fallout from President Trump's executive orders limiting travel from some Middle Eastern and African countries is having far-reaching implications for U.S. tourism

It is not just visitors from the countries targeted by the bans that are souring on U.S. travel; the seven countries included in Trump's original order in January account for 0.1% of incoming travelers. Rather, an atmosphere of fear at the nation's airports - and well-publicized incidents of visitors being detained and interrogated - are scaring off people without the slightest connection to the Muslim world.

"Think twice about visiting America if you don't want the 'Mem Fox' treatment,'' read a recent headline in the letters column of the Australian magazine Traveller, referring to the children's book author who swore she would never return to the United States after being questioned at Los Angeles International Airport on her way to a literary conference.

The pending economic recession on its way will be in part because of how badly the red state rurals have underestimated tourism and its trickle down.

Putin winning again.

I'm a dual American - Irish citizen, a white American-born granny. I have my American passport, but it has stamps from my visits to Tanzania and Turkey. Never had any questions asked before, but it's a new age. Who needs the hassle? I was last there in January, but left the day before this menace was sworn in.

who is desperate to come to the US to share his traditions, both with Anglo-Americans and the large South Asian population. I just can't advise him to come right now. Or in the next four years. Sad.

It will be about 2 years, or permanent, depending on whether we have massive turnout in 2018, or even more massive voter suppression.

The Trump voters in Oklahoma probably won't care about the impact to cities/places in the U.S. that draw foreign leisure travelers.

They simply don't care. The have their Freedumbs - what do they care about a ticket agent for British Airways at Newark or JFK losing their job?

Free me from the dumbs! The rest of the world disagrees with your bias you dumbs.

"Are we supposed to look at the names of our customers and see who is Muslim? Do we refuse to take those customers?" he asked hypothetically, since he has no intention of refusing any clients.

"I know politics is politics, but whenever Trump opens his mouth, it shakes our business.''

But think of the tourism in states like Florida, Louisiana (New Orleans), Texas Coast, Savanna, GE, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, SC, The Outer Banks NC, etc. Lots of red states have big tourism.

They chose it for themselves. It's too bad LA, Boston, and NYC have to take the hit for something they didn't do, don't approve of, and doesn't reflect their values.

realize how much money tourism pours into your economy. I suspect many Trump supporters have no idea at all how important the revenue generated by vacationers is to many places.

Protesting on political principles obviously doesn't get to trump, it's beyond his child-bully mentality. But let his U.S. hotels start suffering for lack of foreign bookings: that might attract his attention.

....Liberals, Obama, Etc. The great thing about getting news from Fox, FB or hate radio is that facts do not matter and reality is fake news. Otherwise, Putin would have been booted from office given how he has driven Russia's economy into a ditch.

You need a Visa to go the EU. Was offered an opportunity to go to Spain for 10-days for $1000 all expenses included. Airline tickets are really LOW in price right now. Whole trip abt. $2000.00. But, not really caring to travel given the way We The People are viewed these days. We allowed this to happen, yes WE!

Now we have been condemned. We are not wanted w/our American dollars.

We done it to ourselves by allowing this to happen.

SAD.

and no,YOU are not Welcome here we are saying with our travel bans, etc.

Make America Great Again! YES!
