The Department of Justice said on Monday it had requested more time to respond to a request from lawmakers on the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee for evidence about President Donald Trumps allegation that then-President Barack Obama wiretapped him.
The department requested additional time to review the request in compliance with the governing legal authorities and to determine what if any responsive documents may exist, a spokeswoman said in a statement.
Trump provided no evidence when, earlier this month, he accused Obama of wiretapping him during the 2016 election campaign. A spokesman for the former president said the charge was simply false.

(104 posts)They could simply say that they know of no evidence that suggests in any way that President Obama wire tapped anyone in trump tower.

I suppose that's not typically what is meant by 'proving a negative', still it's gonna be a challenge for them.

We are in deep shit, because it is up to the guilty to decide whether or not to investigate themselves. This is how a coup works.

Why the delay? You know it doesn't exist. The longer you wait to confess the stupidity, the dumber you look.

(5,045 posts)Damn it - NO! Nine days is long enough to substantiate a fact - if it is a fact. This tells us more about the incompetence of this administration than we need to know. The President, his spokesliars, and his Justice Department are completely over their heads and more time won't change that.v

(11,518 posts)THAT, IMO, is the reason for this in the first place. There's no evidence, that doesn't matter to 45*. It just provides more of a smoke screen.

(17,387 posts)...does not mean wiretapping, then under that new definition, which could include using a microwave, will try to come back and show that President Obama did indeed use a microwave, which is the same as wiretapping?
