Shares of hospital stocks were sharply lower in early trading on Tuesday after the U.S. Congressional Budget Office forecast that 14 million Americans would lose medical insurance by next year under a Republican plan to dismantle Obamacare.
Shares of HCA Holdings fell 1.8 percent, Tenet Healthcare fell 4.6 percent, Community Health Systems was down 2.8 percent and LifePoint Health was down 1.9 percent.
The S&P 500 healthcare sector was off 0.16 percent.
While the CBOs estimate
is a negative headline for hospitals, we believe that in its current form, the bills chances of passing are slim, Jefferies analyst Brian Tanquilut said in a research note.

(175,731 posts)Hospitals face more ER use as the uninsured flock to the ER in health crises. Just sad that the ER will be their only recourse, and one for which they likely will be unable to pay, forcing the hospital to eat their charges.

(45,429 posts)knowing that their shitty bill will likely be rejected.
Hopefully it will be rejected. Enough legislators from both parties know it's bad and Trump doesn't want his name on it.
People will always need health care and hospitals. Some future Democratic president and Dem congress will fix this steaming pile of shit.

I'm betting most Republicans don't care about individual patients, but I bet they do care about the large institutions' profitability that support these patients.
When the hospitals really start losing money from the ACA, SHTF. Won't be pretty.

(43,132 posts)I would always tell them Obamacare was the greatest thing for Republican
healthcare stock portfolios, doctors' incomes, doctors' kids' trust funds,
Big Pharma .... "No, no, NO! You don't know what you're talking about."
Obamacare grew the industry. Sad that so many community hospitals became
for-profit, but that trend was well underway decades before Obamacare.
For-profit medicine brought lots of technology and expertise.

(6,931 posts)They LOSE 20M customers do you think that would effect the profit sheet??? Nah....Trump told them everyone would just keep ponying up the big bucks. Right......................
The will LOSE me as a customer if this so called healthcare bill is passed. I've had BC BS on my own and then through the marketplace since mid-2011 and have never had a PENNY in claims. Tell me that won't effect their bottom line.
