Trump rejects push to oust NSC aide
Source: Politico
President Donald Trump has overruled a decision by his national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, to sideline a key intelligence operative who fell out of favor with some at the Central Intelligence Agency, two sources told POLITICO.
On Friday, McMaster told the National Security Councils senior director for intelligence programs, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, that he would be moved to another position in the organization.
The conversation followed weeks of pressure from career officials at the CIA who had expressed reservations about the 30-year-old intelligence operative and pushed for his ouster.
But Cohen-Watnick appealed McMasters decision to two influential allies with whom he had forged a relationship while working on Trumps transition team White House advisers Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner. They brought the matter to Trump on Sunday, and the president agreed that Cohen-Watnick should remain as the NSCs intelligence director, according to two people with knowledge of the episode.

(43,161 posts)Who made this decision? Not McMaster. He's just the national security adviser.
Bannon and Kushner? Trump is letting them run the show. We elected these people
even less than we didn't elect Trump!

(1,129 posts)The deal was that McMaster could make personnel decisions with the exceptions of KT McFarland & the Principals Committee members (Bannon)....
But now he has experienced the same treatment as Mattis & Tillerson.....
If the Generals are ever going to squash the WH insurgents... maybe this will speed things up

(48,955 posts)Bet there are others. Bet they report back (that is behind the back of their superiors) to Bannon and Kushner - not about what is best for the Country, but about what can be used to make Trump look better. Or for more nefarious purposes?....
