Trump to celebrate Andrew Jacksons 250th birthday in Nashville, attend a rally

Source: Washington Post

NASHVILLE — President Trump plans to travel to the Music City on Wednesday for his first campaign rally since the release of health-care legislation that would replace the Affordable Care Act and, according to federal officials, result in millions losing their health insurance.

Which has prompted some locals to wonder: Why Nashville?

It has nothing to do with health care. Trump is coming to town to celebrate the 250th birthday of Andrew Jackson, the controversial seventh president who embraced populism and has been compared to the current president.

The Hermitage — as Jackson's mansion is called — has shut down for the day and canceled plans for an event that was expected to attract thousands of visitors. Trump plans to visit late in the afternoon, laying a wreath on Jackson's tomb, taking a tour and learning more about Jackson.

on the Trail of Tears. That's what he's really celebrating: the genocide of other people's babies.

We drew while she read. I would sit there and cry.

I own the book, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I have read it many times. All first source records of removal after removal, broken treaty after broken treaty.

There is no Indian records of my family even though ... we know, we all "knew". No one talked about it and in the census records, all are said to be white and even negro in some records.

The whole thing created an environment of perfect dysfunction. No one really knew nor cared to really know who was who as it was indeed dangerous.

It ruined the lives of many Americans, American Indians so to speak.

When I look back at the entire picture, it is clear what the agenda was and that was either total assimilation or total genocide, take your pick. The pick tended to be assimilation as that is how one stayed alive. Most of these people that were on the Trail of Tears were mixed-blood folk. In fact, the head man for the head of the Cherokee at the time was John Ross. He was 1/8th Cherokee blood and who would have ever known if he had not had a wife that was a full-blood? NO ONE is the answer and that is the answer that was desired. It is a tragedy and restitution has never been given to my people.

..."Jefferson Jackson" dinners as their biggest annual fundraising event are dropping "Jackson" and some even dropping "Jefferson" because of their positions on slavery.

So what does the a-hole-in-chief do? Celebrates Jackson. Does he have any idea at all of what's going on in the real world?

Trump has shit all over Nashville with this. "The Hermitage" had big plans for the celebration of Jackson's 250th Birthday which were tossed aside to entertain this ignorant buffoon, who I'd wager couldn't tell you the difference between Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson. Add to that, there's a lot of other events in town tonight, including Carol Burnett at the Ryman, which we have tickets to see, and traffic in and around Nashville is going to be exponentially worse than usual. Ugh....I suppose I'm venting my own frustrations about having to deal with Trumplethinskin interrupting my plans...

Who attends - it's just that simple. If he were giving a speech as President he would have to let anyone in. We all know that's not going to happen. As far af celebrating Jackson - a slave holder - that is not a surprise.

Boy did this awhole screw my family good!

He moved them out of No. Carolina ---> Kentucky in abt. 1832. It was then realized that the place in KY they were removed to was worth something so they were moved again (with their 15 kids) to Indiana. My grgrgrgrandfather was 50 years old when he got to Indiana to his "new" home which was abt 100 acres of swamp land.

That land was sold shortly after my old grandfather realized how worthless it was and he went another round with Andrew Jackson and was sold different land in Indiana not far away but a bit better it seems. That land deed states that all of my old grandfather's descendants own this land forever!

HA!

Said land is still there of course but who knows who owns it now. Perhaps I should go there with that Andrew Jackson land deed in hand and make a few demands eh?

I hate this worthless SOB that is now dead and gone obviously. Having his face on the $20 is bad enough and I'm not about to celebrate 250 since this freak was born and screwed over God only knows how many Indian people of that era into perpetuity!

If it was strictly "a campaign event" the Trump campaign would be on the hook for renting AF 1 and the Secret Service, but by saying it was an event to "Honor Andrew Jackson" they can bill the American people. Seeing that The Hermitage had to cancel a previously scheduled event, seems the visit to Jackson's tomb was hastily added because the Trump Camp has gotten wise. Watch for more "campaign rallies" paired with Presidential Events. Fiscal sleight of hand...
