President Donald Trump on Wednesday defended his unsubstantiated claim that President Barack Obama's administration "wire tapped" his phones at Trump Tower, saying that the phrase "covers a lot of different things."

"Wiretap covers a lot of different things," Trump told Fox anchor Tucker Carlson in an interview scheduled to air Wednesday night. "I think you're going to find some very interesting items coming to the forefront over the next two weeks."

In his original string of tweets, Trump specifically claimed: "President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!"

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the leaking of pages from his 2005 tax returns is "illegal" and a "disgrace."

"I have no idea where they got it," Trump told Fox anchor Tucker Carlson in an interview scheduled to air Wednesday night. "They've done it before, and I think it's a disgrace."

Trump claimed throughout the 2016 campaign that he could not release his tax returns because he was under audit.

The White House nevertheless confirmed the numbers in the partial 2005 document moments before reporter David Cay Johnston revealed the returns on Rachel Maddow's Tuesday night show on MSNBC.

Every time this man gets caught in a lie, his admin obfuscates the issue to the point where people forget the original issue altogether. The issue is not whether there was surveillance of Trump, etc. in general. The issue is whether President Obama directed that surveillance which, as we all know, is a felony. The issue is Trump accusing President Obama of a felony without providing a smidgen proof.

So, perhaps I am missing something here, but I don't care if Trump/DOJ does provide evidence of surveillance. Where is the evidence that President Obama ordered it? That is what needs to be provided because, again, the issue was Trump calling President Obama a criminal. Anything short of evidence of that means a retraction is necessary in my eyes.
