Tillerson: 'I'm Not A Big Media Press Access Person'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published MARCH 18, 2017, 11:33 AM EDT

Under scrutiny for declining to bring the diplomatic press corps on his trip to Asia this week, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson defended his decision in an interview published Saturday, saying that he simply doesn't make press access a priority.

"I’m not a big media press access person. I personally don’t need it. I understand it’s important to get the message of what we’re doing out, but I also think there’s only a purpose in getting the message out when there’s something to be done," Tillerson told the Independent Journal Review.

"And so we have a lot of work to do, and when we’re ready to talk about what we’re trying to do, I will be available to talk to people," he continued. "But doing daily availability, I don’t have this appetite or hunger to be that, have a lot of things, have a lot of quotes in the paper or be more visible with the media."

Tillerson did not bring a crew of reporters on his trip abroad, breaking with State Department tradition. The Secretary of State only invited a reporter from the conservative outlet Independent Journal Review, and she did not file pool reports making other reporters aware of Tillerson's activities. The press complained about the lack of access.

Usually newbies start at entry-level jobs and work their way up to Secretary of State. He should probably read the new employee orientation packet with a magnifying glass.

The basic distinction between liberal and conservative thought - ME vs WE.

It is no wonder they want to eliminate government. When you live is a Me-centric world, well ...

More of, we will install people who don't understand how/why to govern, then express shock that it is now failing.

You do whatever you want. SOS Tillerson.

We know all this is just a prelude to your visit to Russia, removal of sanctions, and ExxonMobil and the investors living happily ever after - until even the rich can't breathe.

"Destroying the administrative state" is just a sideline distraction while the American oligarchs complete their true mission.

You wanted a job in the public sector - that's what you got. The Press is how you remain accountable to the public. It's that simple. If you want a private life, resign. It's not like you are any good at the job.

Be secretive, act as though you are above the law, make your own rules, use the people's resources for free, pay bribes, make friends with ruthless dictators, ignore human rights, leave a trail of human misery in your wake but make it difficult for it to be traced back to you, keep a killer industry going by telling lies,

You have proposed to gut and cut the State Department out 28% of the funding, just like Jason Chaffetz did when Clinton was in the State Department, he, Chaffetz did this, here let's remind everyone what you and Chaffetz are all about and not protecting the citizens of this country.

The State Department keeps me and my family safe and this country safe, ass****

...exercizing their First Amendment rights. The public demanding transparency, whatever that is. The lack of quiet rooms where businessmen can make gentlemen's agreements without scrutiny. Because it's all business and all money and the transfer of wealth. How can the peasants not understand that?

Poor Tillerson. I wonder if we can make him quit, or if it would be better for him to stick around until the NSA and/or FBI confirm the level of money-laundering going on.
