Kasich Warns GOP Leaders Not To 'Jam' Repeal Bill Through House

Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Friday night said that he has concerns about the House bill to repeal and replace Obamacare and warned that if Republicans rush a bill through Congress without input from Democrats, the legislation will be doomed.
"So, what Im fearful of, if Republicans jam this through without working with Democrats and reaching some sort of real good compromise, we will be right back where we were in five or six years before we started with Obamacare," Kasich told CNN's Anderson Cooper. "Thats not acceptable."
He said that he does not believe the bill will pass in the Senate in its current form and called on Senate leadership to work on a compromise with Democrats.
"I that think the situation is, the road map is, maybe it will pass the House, maybe it wont. But when it gets to the Senate, we have to involve both parties in the discussion because, Anderson, look, if you don't have both parties working on a major issue, it's not sustainable," he said.

(68,555 posts)House and the Senate...with no tax repeal...just make Obamacare bet, then do it. But I think it is very unlikely...the bill has to be better than Obamacare is now with no cuts in coverage, no taxes for the rich and no higher premiums and the mandate stays. Also states should be encourage to expand Medicaid with a carrot and a stick approach...unlikely I know.

(34,066 posts)My daughter is not a political football. Letting chips fall where they will is playing political football with my daughter's life, and the lives of similarly situate individuals. It is putting politics ahead of the lives of people who desperately need medical care. That is NOT a progressive value, so plese stop advocating condemning my daughter to death for the sake of political gain.

If we can't save something - or make changes in the cuts - that is one thing - AFTER we've made our best efforts. But for you to say "let the chips fall where they may" when those chips are actual people - rather than lift a finger and be perceived as tainted is the opposite of progressive - and, in my opinion, immoral.

(6,181 posts)Look they had what 60 vote in the house that they knew was going no where.
Doing the same thing over and over expecting different result is at best idiotic but it does define the republican house.
They are just like the 5 year old 'leader' in the White House. We want it our way or we will scream louder kick sand SCREAM even louder, break things that are in reach. SCREAM LOUDER and so on and so on. Here we are 6-7 years later and now they are going to pass another idiotic bill that is DOA in the senate.
A house full of idiots being lead by and idiot they would burn the house down if they don't get their way.

(43,139 posts)Make it only 10 million lose health insurance?
The 1% only gets $800 billion tax cut instead of $1.2 trillion?
Medicaid gutted only 57% instead of completely?
No Democrat should compromise on this. Republicans have the majority to pass anything they want. Let them do it and let them take responsibility for their actions.

(27,792 posts)which is something Senate leadership never does, thanks to the Turtle & others in the Senate, who don't want to ever, ever, ever "compromise" with those on the other side of the aisle.
I think Kasich deserves some credit for speaking his mind, unlike any of the other GOP governors.
Imo, too many people around here lump all Republicans in the same slimy barrel.
I know I'll probably take some heat for saying this, but It's the way I feel.

(194 posts)Ramming bills through Congress, with no intent of compromising is what HIS party does, and he knows that. He know all of the slimy, shitty, hateful, bigoted stuff they do on a daily basis, and he is still a Republican. He is complicit in EVERYTHING his party does.

(32,969 posts)I do think the national party is responsible for poor fund raising & funding of the state party (looking right @ you DWS). Kasich is running for 2020 & he is very used to a super minority he can run over easily. I suspect that Kasich is gratified that Portman(creep) is semipublically slow walking on ACA/Ocare repeal.
