Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), the chair of the House Rules Committee, faced a raucous crowd at a town hall event in Texas on Saturday as he attempted to explain Republicans' plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Before taking questions, Sessions used a slide show presentation to explain Republicans' legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act to a crowd of about 2,000 people, according to the Texas Tribune. As he was met with shouts, Sessions at one point told the crowd, "Its obvious to me that if we continue this, no member of Congress will want to meet with people."
Sessions appeared to grow frustrated with the crowd, and told them, "You know what? I know why youre so frustrated: You dont know how to listen," according to the Texas Tribune.
During the question and answer portion of the town hall, the congressman told the audience, "We are going to make the changes, we are going to pass the bill and we are going to repeal Obamacare." That comment was met with a chant of "Vote him out!"

Thinking the same thing. Couldn't have said it as well as you have.

(9,426 posts)these guys do not rely on their taxpayer paychecks. Their owners and lobbyists are the ones who replenish their bank accounts. How do you think they all retire as millionaires? NOT from the (what they consider) chickenfeed from their constituents. Get rid of the deadwood in DC, and we will all be better off.

(2,673 posts)It doesn't get any redder or more conservative than Pete Session's district. This was why I was so surprised to read a letter to the editor in this morning's Dallas Morning News. The reader said that Session's town hall meeting was RSVP only and only for voters from his district could attend. And all questions would have to be submitted in advance so they could be vetted. Doesn't sound like this plan worked. If his people are booing him, there is big trouble brewing on the horizon for the Republicans.
One more thing, he is dumb as a box of rocks. He says things as stupid as Louie Gohmert. A local community newspaper used to have a column that was updated with all the stupid things Session said.

(9,426 posts)I thought being dumb was an asset in Texas politics? They gave us Dubya, the worst president EVER until tRump came along. Maybe it is that the gop likes them to be stupid? That way they can keep them in line the way they do. No individual thinking of such crazy thoughts as "what do my constituents want?" If this health plan is so good, why are they keeping their taxpayer funded health plan?

(12,607 posts)held a telephone "town hall", which was incredibly boring, displayed his reactionary ideology and protected him from his constituents, but only until 2018.

(14,887 posts)the telephone thing too. He didn't announce it. My phone rang but there was no identification. Only the number so I didn't answer it. I had a couple of questions and rambling answers on my voicemail. I an at a loss as to why I was called. They have the voter rolls in front of them.
