Kids on winning robotics team told, 'Go back to Mexico'
Source: MSN/USA Today
INDIANAPOLIS The day should have been one of glory and celebration for five fourth-graders.
The Pleasant Run Elementary students had just won a robotics challenge at Plainfield High School, and the students new to bot competition this year were one step closer to the Vex IQ State Championship.
The team is made up of 9- and 10-year-olds. Two are African American and three are Latino.
As the group, called the Pleasant Run PantherBots, and their parents left the challenge last month in Plainfield, Ind., competing students from other Indianapolis-area schools and their parents were waiting for them in the parking lot. Go back to Mexico! two or three kids screamed at their brown-skin peers and their parents, according to some who were there.

The thing is how can you discipline the students who made some comments when the response will be that they are acting Presidential and taking their cues from the President? If the President can act like this, how can you hold children to a higher standard of behavior?

(1,132 posts)Not only did these kids not let the taunts get to them, they continued winning and will now be completing in a world championship next month.
They demolished the evil Deplorables in the most perfect way possible - - by whipping their asses (figuratively). My hats off to them.

These kids ran into some assholes.
And you know what, we've had assholes at competitions since Grok beat out Thag for Uma and took her to his cave.
It's what we are.
Let's not give this any more than it's due. Let's not raise this to new heights. It's bad manners and those people were assholes.
They're just trying to find a way to make the "snowflake lib-tards" upset.
The real story is this-- "Cool, smart, terrific kids laugh at stupid assholes because the cool kids get to go to the next stage of the competition."
There's no reason to make this a big deal. Assholes are assholes.

(7,963 posts)I talk to my kids about our so called potus. Especially my older one. We talk about racism, sexism, and xenophobia. We talk about the disaster that is trump. I educate them in what NOT to be, NOT to do, and what NOT to accept.
I then show them Trudeau and Merkel and explain THAT is what leadership looks like. THAT is what diplomacy looks like. THAT is what human decency looks like.
I don't paint solely rainbows and sunshine for my kids. They need to learn the world around them but in a guided way.
America is a great and wonderful country. But we are far from perfect.
Those kids that made those vile remarks need to be reprimanded. We have an obligation to educate them just as much as we have an obligation to protect kids from harassment, bullying, racism, misogyny, etc.
