Trump's 'major meeting' on veterans affairs never happened

Source: MSN/The Hill

President Trump boasted Friday that his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla., was the "most convenient" place to hold a meeting "all about" the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), but the meeting never took place.

"Tonight I'm having a major meeting with some of the people I put on a board," Trump had said earlier Friday. "'That seems to be the most convenient location. Everybody always wants to go to the Southern White House."

A White House official later told the Palm Beach Post that the meeting would not happen Friday night. It's unclear why, and the event never appeared on Trump's official schedule for the day. Such a meeting has not been included in current or future schedules.

Trump, according to pool reports, will have dinner with Ike Perlmutter, the Marvel CEO Saturday.

I recall this big white marble building on Pennsylvania Avenue in DC that's just perfect for things like figuring out how to dissolve the VA.

had something to do with it. As you'll recall, Rump asked him jovially in front of cameras if he'd be there and he was forced to say he would not--to a gathering of national media.

LOTS of people, including genuine veterans' organizations, are extremely concerned about plans for the VA. People like the Kochs who want to "privatize," i.e., destroy, it are clearly gaining steam. That kick at a director who wants to protect and better it had to have been a huge red flag on top of several others for them.

Notably, while the director was excluded, the Kochs' agent from their hostile group, "Concerned Veterans for America," was to be there.

the one he took from a veteran who actually earned it, looks pinned to his golf sweater.

But mebbe Captain America and Nick Fury came with Ike to the meeting, to give dRumpf some input into Vets' issues.

He does seem more like a Red Skull / Doc Doom adherent, though.

the military, and Vets in particular, so badly. I've tried giving him examples of where and how he's just plain wrong, but even when backed into a corner by an irrefutable fact he always deflects by saying, well, if you didn't fight in Nam you just can't know the truth about... Obama, or whatever.

I hitched a ride with a couple of Marines in a huge, open truck - they were headed for the air base and so was I. I'd never met these fellas and in short order, I'd wished I hadn't. While one of them drove the monster of a truck relentlessly thru the streets teeming with Vietnamese on foot or on bicycle, the bully, loudmouth partner stood at the rear of the truck - grabbing hats off people and them placing them on other folks heads a ways down the street. Laughing the whole time and screaming obscenities at them, he'd push folks over on their bikes and laugh his ass off as they toppled. Hanging off the rear of the truck, he'd try to kick civilians if they were unlucky enough to be too close. As I said, the street was jammed with pedal-powered traffic. I was truly ashamed to be an American in that moment - it felt much like I feel now - now that we've got a heartless, brainless clown as the flag-bearer of the USA.
