Proposed Meals on Wheels cuts drive fear among Alabama seniors
Source: al.com
For the 42,000 seniors that benefit from the Meals on Wheels program across Alabama every year, the expectant knock at the door is often the only visitor they'll receive all day. Most live alone, and the meal that's delivered by a volunteer between 10 and noon is usually the only food they'll eat.
For some seniors, those meals could be about to stop coming.
On Friday, one day after President Donald Trump dropped a budget that contained a 17.9 percent cut to the Department of Health and Human Services, some seniors in Central Alabama asked if that day's meal would be their last, according to a United Way employee that rode with a volunteer delivery driver in Jefferson County.
"They're scared," said Samuetta Nesbitt, Senior Vice President Public Relations and Community Affairs at United Way in Central Alabama. "We have the luxury of waiting to see what's going to happen, the seniors don't. They're home watching TV being concerned about where the next meal will come from."

(3,040 posts)That all of those in Alabama personally hurt by the cuts will still vote down ticket Republicans.

(599 posts)these people that voting Republican means voting against your own interests. Of course they think they're voting for their interests because the Republicans are pro-gun, anti-LGBTQ, pro-war, pro-Christian and anti-liberal, but they don't realize that the Republicans are also anti-labor, pro-big business, pro-tax cuts for the rich and other things that hurt the poor, rural, low-skilled people.

(14,167 posts)I'm sorry -- I have a hard time feeling sorry for these people knowing the majority of them voted for Trump and will still vote Republican even if the Republicans starve them to death and snatch their health care.

(15,330 posts)Bet 90 -95% of them voted for Trump. Guess they fucking thought that only the "dark" people would lose their fucking meals.
That's their hole fucking hillbilly mindset. Same with the dumbasses in KY, WV, TN, MS, etc.
See, when they get a "gubmint" hand-out, it's because they're "hard-working 'Murikans" that deserve it. Their black and Hispanic neighbors across the river...when they get a "gubmint" hand-out, it's because they're lazy scofflaws sucking on the teet of 'Murika!
Fuck every last one of them!
