Ex-CIA Chief of Staff: Other House Intel Committee Members Likely Horrified Over Nunes Actions

Source: Mediaite

Following House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes’ press conference on his briefing of President Donald Trump over his finding of “incidentally collected” communications of Trump transition members, a former CIA chief of staff lit into the Republican lawmaker over his actions.

MSNBC security analyst Jeremy Bash noted that he served as counsel to the House Intelligence Committee in the past while pointing out that he “never heard of a chairman of an oversight committee going to brief the President of the United States about concerns he had about things he read in an intelligence report.”

“The job of the committee is to do oversight of the executive branch,” Bash exclaimed. “Not to bring them into their investigation or to tip them off to things they may be looking at.”

He continued, “I’ve gotta believe that other members of the committee are horrified at what they just witnessed. This is a chairman that’s supposed to be doing impartial, bipartisan investigations of the president’s inner circle and instead he basically goers and tells the president and his team everything he knows.”

At the presser, Nunes was asked if he was providing “political cover” to Trump regarding the president’s tweets earlier this month that his predecessor wiretapped Trump Tower prior to the election.

Democrat Adam Schiff, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, held a hastily-planned press conference to respond to committee chairman Devin Nunes‘ decision to give President Donald Trump updates on the Russia investigation and wiretapping without showing the evidence to Schiff. He said that Nunes’ actions mean that there is reason to create an independent commission to investigate Russia’s involvement.

Schiff, who is also from California, said that Nunes’ actions created “enormous doubt” that Congress can handle an independent investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election. He said he will ask House Speaker Paul Ryan about creating an independent commission.

“We have certainly made it clear now for many weeks … we do an investigation through our intelligence committees but we also have a truly independent commission,” Schiff said. “A commission would have a dedicated staff and resources solely on this … issue.”

series of quid pro quo transactions, but your larger point stands that, as recently as 2008-10, we have had one-party control.

By "one-party state" I mean a state where the one party in control does not recognize the principle of 'separation of powers' or 'co-equal branches.' Our constitutional system sounds great on paper and usually works well. But it requires a good-faith consensus on core principles, precisely that which is lacking with these Republican scumbags now.

and amazing it has gone this long - perhaps because it appealed to the intellectuals who found in the long run, it was "good for business". And history has shown that it has been - bringing the best and the brightest in the world here to "contribute" (and have this country "take credit&quot for the brilliance that made this nation excel (in some things).

However when you have a mix of the "sincerely ignorant" with those who are "conscientiously stupid" (to paraphrase MLK), therein lies the danger. And couple that with those who know the system but were willing to gamble for a short-term advantage by throwing caution to the wind to MIHOP or LIHOP to obtain what they perceived as a long-term gain, they are themselves now ensnared (and thus blackmailed) to keep up the ruse this late in the game.

The Republican Congress seems determined to allow treasonous and criminal behavior to continue without any restriction.

Someone has to take the fall for this eventually unless the coup becomes total and Democracy is eliminated from the US.
