White House fencer jumper snagged by own shoelaces
Source: AP
The U.S. Secret Service says a woman who tried to climb over the White House fence was found dangling from it by her shoelaces.
The agency says in a statement that Uniformed Division Officers saw the woman late Tuesday walking around the White House. Agents say she tried to climb over the fence adjacent to E Street.
Authorities say the womans shoelaces got entangled at the top of the fence and she was suspended inside the fence.
The agency says officers helped the woman down and arrested her.
Court records show that 38-year-old Marci Wahl of Everett, Washington, was charged with unlawful entry. At a hearing in D.C. Superior Court on Wednesday, Wahl pleaded not guilty and was released pending a hearing next month.

(3,424 posts)I don't remember there being so many people entering or attempting to enter the White House or White House grounds in the past as there have in recent years and I've been around quite a long time now.
Maybe I just wasn't paying attention enough before? If there's been a rise in this, the SS needs to step up their game. Damn.

(42,862 posts)... would have played out for a brown-skinned person. I'm perfectly willing to trust the judgement of the arresting officers and other officials who processed and charged this individual.
Not you (of course) but I'm sure there may be others who'd be tempted to alert on the previous post under the "No bigotry/insensitivity" rule. My personal opinion about that is this: Questioning whether everyone is being treated equally (or given advantage) isn't being "bigoted" or "insensitive".
I believe it's a completely fair and valid question. Considering everything, people are definitely likely to wonder if this person may have been trusted to their own recognizance for reasons other than their behavior or the severity of the incident.

(55,445 posts)but I was 14 at the time trying to scale the fence for baseball practice (while suspended upside down I had to reach in my pocket for my house key and 'saw' the part of my shoelace caught on the fence)... Don't know what the hell this woman's problem is...
