Effort to Woo Conservatives to Health Bill Backfires

Source: Political Wire

“The Republican plan to replace Obamacare — backed vehemently by President Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan — continued to bleed support from moderate House members just hours before an expected vote,” Politico reports.

“An effort to woo conservatives hatched late Wednesday appeared to backfire with other factions in the House Republican conference, and the growing rebellion threatens to derail Trump’s guarantee that he will repeal and replace the seven-year-old health care law.”

...snip...

GOP leaders can have no more than 22 defections from Republicans.

A few whip counts:

CBS News reports that 31 GOP House members “cannot support the bill in its current form.”
NBC News says there are 30 who are “against the bill or leaning against it.”
Huffington Post says 29 are “extremely likely to be against” the bill.
The Hill finds 29 who are still against the bill.
New York Times finds 29 “no” votes.

And now Trump will give away the store to try and grab HFC members? What could possibly go wrong?

that Trump will grease the palms of enough to get his votes.

Either with literal bribes, or with some sort of cut outs for the various districts.

... can never go home again to their home district.

There's so much anger over this at the local Town Hall meetings that these guys are really scared.

This MUST be a 100% Republican bill and idea. The effects are already known, and I am sympathetic to the fact that millions will be hurt by this (if it actually happens); but the GOP must be made to suffer the consequences of their rhetoric and insane policy ideas. The idea that we must work with them to make things 'less bad' is a losing strategy.

What we need to do is start campaigning NOW on the fact that the GOP 'plans' simply will kill people, harm the environment, destroy the decaying middle class and enslave the poor. We need to be hosting town hall forums in every Red congressional district and patiently explain the effects of these bills on the lives of the people who have been duped by the GOP and the Fox Noise machine.

We need to roll up our sleeves and treat this like an old-fashioned unionization vote...pound the pavement, hand out the fliers, talk to people as long as it takes...but make them see the facts are 1) they're being used, and 2) the people using them WILL toss them aside as soon as possible.

Do your worst GOP...but the Democratic Party MUST do our best to make the distinction crystal clear...

US Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121.

And asked if he was a doctor, they said yes, I said, did he or did he not take a oath to protect patients and not money?

I then said to the lady on the end of the line for him to vote NO, health care is a right, and if he can't vote NO then he needs to be removed from office and will be voted out of office.

the TPM in particular, wish to repeal the ACA only, and replace it with nothing.

You know their aim is to destroy Obamacare and fuck us over bigly, so don't think this will stop that train. Ryan and rats are determined to gut Medicaid, Medicare and SS and will not rest until that's done. Dems will need to remain hyper-vigilant as long as R's are in power because the rat bastards are sneaky, liars and total traitors to the constitution and American way of life. They will do anything to fuck up all rules and regulations and even laws that protect us from the greedy, hating, immoral 1%.
