Trump demands do-or-die Friday vote on healthcare plan

Source: rawstory.com

23 Mar 2017 at 20:48 ET

U.S. President Donald Trump will get a second chance to try to close the deal with Republican lawmakers on dismantling Obamacare in a high-stakes vote on a new healthcare bill rescheduled for Friday.

After a week of calling Republican lawmakers and bringing them into the Oval Office for meetings, Trump was dealt a setback on Thursday when a vote on what was supposed to have been his first legislative victory had to be postponed because of opposition from two flanks in the party.

Conservatives felt the bill did not go far enough to repeal Obama’s namesake healthcare legislation, and moderates felt the plan could hurt their constituents.

House Republican leaders had signaled they were ready to work through the weekend to figure out a way to reconcile their differences. But Trump sent his top lieutenants to a dramatic meeting on Capitol Hill on Thursday night with a message: he was done talking.

48. NOT CASUAL
Fri Mar 24, 2017, 08:39 AM
Mar 2017

The use of the term was NOT casual. Trump is engaged in a modern day version, permutation, or whatever term you want to use, of the Final Solution: exterminate the poor, suck working people dry, work people to death so the rich can "prosper", steal as much as possible from working families, destroy ecological systems on a planetary scale so the rich can be even richer. People who can't SEE that reality are flat out fools. The irony is the scum of the Earth such as Trump will end up killing more, shortening more people's lives and creating more damage than the "original" Final Solution. Overall, by the way, this crap has been going on for 150,000 years and what we are seeing today is hardly news and is hardly ANY different from what occurred during the Final Solution (hint if you're doing the analysis: "when you're dead, you're dead; you think death from industrial cause or pollution is "different" from death in a "death camp"? It isn't. When you're dead you're dead and what Trump is doing is thus logically INDISTINGUISHABLE from what Hitler did. THE BEHAVIOR IS IDENTICAL.

46. 6 Million Deaths
Fri Mar 24, 2017, 08:31 AM
Mar 2017

Read the Journals and DO THE MATH. What Trump has ALREADY done will directly and indirectly result in the extermination of way more than 6 million people. We live on a PLANET. That means that the consequences of his anti-social, psychopathic, utterly depraved behavior are going to play out WORLD-WIDE and consequently the incontrovertible fact of the matter is way more than "merely" 6 million will die. Do you know what the environmental consequences ALONE of the policy changes are thus far? Start reading ad let me know when you got through all the stuff as I have. I'm not into the politically correct crap. The Holocaust was a catastrophe of epic proportions. But the incontrovertible fact of the matte is Trump has now proven himself to be simply a modern day proponent of HIS version of the Final Solution but just draped in finery and technological wizardry. Want my advice? You better start opening your mouth and scream bloody murder if there is to be even a remote chance of stopping our latest HITLER. Period.

The simple fact of the matter is, regardless of whether you are a Democrat or Republican, if you worked for a major corporation whose CEO acted the way Trump does on a daily basis--repeatedly telling easily discredited lies in public, flying off on golf vacations every weekend on the company dime, inviting his nonemployee children to meetings where corporate policy and strategy are discussed, publicly shaming previous and present company higher-ups for his shortcomings, flying around the country performing self-serving PR activities (again on the company dime)...ET CETERA, ET CETERA--it would take less than one day for the board of directors of your corporation to hold an emergency meeting and fucking fire his ass, sending Corporate Security to march him out of his office immediately without even a second to collect his shit.

THAT is how companies are run in the real world. But I guess I shouldn't expect some poorly educated Republican dipshit in some jerkwater town to know that.

“The president has said he wants a vote tomorrow, up or down,” Collins said.

“If for any reason it is down, we are just going to move forward with additional parts of his agenda” like tax reform, Collins told reporters after leaving the meeting.

He wants it done, because he really doesn't care which way he goes. He never really cared about health care reform, beyond its usefulness as a campaign issue. He just wants it dealt with, one way or the other, so he can move on to something he actually has some interest in, i.e. tax reform. (Presumably ways for him and his rich friends to keep more of their money.)

Trump knows only one mode--attack. Problem is that doesn't really work in a legislative setting and you have little or no leverage against the people you are trying to manipulate.

The, Republicans, under the brilliant generalship of Paul Ryan (Policy Wonk Extraordinaire) have created a lose/lose situation. Their constituents are furiously against repeal of the ACA without a plan that is better and cheaper. The "plan" they've come up with is not only not better but it is likely to not be anywhere remotely cheaper.

So, if they don't vote for this catastrophe they'll get primaried by the well funded manic right. If they do vote for it their voters will vote them out of office.

Neither one is attractive.

The Freedom Caucus will not be satisfied until we are right back to where we were before the ACA--pre-existing condition exclusions, maximum lifetime benefits, no keeping adult children on parents policies until 26--and no subsidies dammit! Anything else is rampant socialism.

The moderates (yes, they do still exist) would like to keep all the good things about the ACA, but just call it something else.

Trump will push and I'm pretty confident he's going to end up with egg on this face. Although I could be wrong and they may pass this out of the House. The Senate could be crazy enough to approve it.

Problem is even if this ends up on his desk and he signs it--it's pure poison. Welcome to politics, Donnie Boy!

US President Donald Trump has demanded a make-or-break vote in the House of Representatives on Friday on his troubled healthcare bill.
(snip)

Mr Trump reportedly warned fellow Republicans that they had a choice between voting for his bill on Friday or being stuck with Obamacare for good.
(snip)

Meanwhile, Chris Collins, New York's Republican representative, said: "The president has said he wants a vote tomorrow, up or down. If for any reason it is down, we are just going to move forward with additional parts of his agenda."
(snip)

He needs a minimum of 216 Republicans to vote for the bill. If 22 Republicans join the Democrats in voting against the bill it will fail, and an Associated Press tally late on Thursday suggested that at least 28 Republicans opposed it.
