Nebraska Democratic Party draws fire for putting voter registration forms in gift baskets for refuge

The chairwoman of the Nebraska Democratic Party said she has been receiving threats since news about the party’s donations to refugee resettlement groups — which included voter registration forms — hit conservative blogs last week.

Jane Kleeb, the Democratic Party leader, said that as part of a meeting on March 18, staff donated about 50 baskets of items to Lutheran Family Services and the Refugee Empowerment Center. Along with baby formula, flatware and dishware, the party included voter registration forms and letters from Kleeb explaining what it means to be a Democrat.

“There is nothing illegal about what we did,” she said, adding that the form clearly explains that only citizens are eligible to vote. The intention, she said, was to familiarize refugees with the registration process.

“We wanted to let refugees know that the Democratic Party welcomes them,” she said.

I agree that they should be educated so maybe a pocket Constitution with a basic explanation would have been better.

Who CARES what conservatives think?

INCLUDING refugees in our political processes, to the degree that they can legally participate, SHOULD BE EXACTLY THE KIND OF THING THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS ALL ABOUT!!!!

Refugees - people that are fleeing the persecution of tyrants, coming to a place of freedom for all - are EXACTLY what THIS COUNTRY is supposed to be about!!!!

Conservatives opposing this should be torn to shreds!!

We should all care what conservatives think, because many of them voted for trump and gave us the disaster we have now. We shouldn't hand them fodder for more Dem/Liberal/Progressive bashing.
