A soldier from Iowa who disappeared during the Korean War has been identified after 66 years and is being returned to U.S. soil.
Sgt. Donald Noehren, of Harlan, Iowa, will be buried Monday, April 3, at Arlington National Cemetery, near Washington, D.C., with several of his relatives present for the long-delayed funeral rites.
His remains were recovered in 2005 by a joint recovery team from what is now called the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, and identified only recently, according to a press release from the agency.
Even though none of the surviving family has ever met our uncle Donald, this will be a highly emotional time to be reconnected to our uncle, said his nephew, Bruce Noehren of Omaha, in an email Monday.
