First GOP lawmaker calls for Nunes to recuse himself
Source: The Hill
Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) on Tuesday told The Hill that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) should "absolutely" recuse himself from his panel's investigation into Russia's meddling in last years election.
Jones, a member of the House Armed Services Committee who frequently bucks leadership, is the first Republican in Congress to call on Nunes to step aside.
"How can you be chairman of a major committee and do all these things behind the scenes and keep your credibility? You can't keep your credibility," Jones said just off the House floor.
If anything has shown that we need a commission, this has done it by the way he has acted. That's the only way you can bring integrity to the process. The integrity of the committee looking into this has been tainted."

(130,865 posts)'A handful of politicians have publicly repented for their 2002 vote to authorize the Iraq War, but few as forcefully as Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) did last week.
I did not do what I should have done to read and find out whether Bush was telling us the truth about Saddam being responsible for 9/11 and having weapons of mass destruction, Jones said during an interview on The Tyler Cralle Show.'
Because I did not do my job then, Jones continued, I helped kill 4,000 Americans, and I will go to my grave regretting that.'>>>

(1,865 posts)Walter Jones was my hero, when I was a distraught & despairing Military mom. (Sen.Mark Dayton, Minn, was another.)
Jones was & is a Patriot, a Man of deep integrity.
Goood to hear he's STILL standing & speaking on his convictions.
Bless him!

(130,865 posts)I've admired him since I observed him, at a hearing on Iraq war, when he learned about it's weak 'legs' from General Wesley Clark, who testified. Mr. Jones was not ashamed to admit he didn't know EVERYTHING.

(81,220 posts)He was the first, and as far as I can remember, the ONLY GOPer in the House of Reps who came to his senses about the relabeling of French fries to "Freedom fries" in the House dining room. That was back when everybody on that side of the aisle was decrying the French for not going along with the "Coalition of the Willing" and dumping on France, and calling the French such lovely things as "cheese-eating surrender monkeys."
BTW - "Coalition of the Willing" still stands, in my mind, as one of the worst, idiotic, pathetic, pansy-assed "slogan" I think I've ever heard in all my life. DISGRACEFUL.
