Democrat group attacks Romney in Olympic-themed ad

Source: AFP

WASHINGTON — A group backing US President Barack Obama released a biting Olympics-themed ad Wednesday attacking Republican rival Mitt Romney as he heads to London for the Games.

In the video, Priorities USA Action used archive images from the opening ceremony of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics that Romney ran and is credited with saving from bankruptcy.

The ad shows a radiant Romney as he waved to the cheering crowd as delegations entered the stadium. In the assumed voice of a sportscaster, the accompanying commentary takes aim at Romney's record at companies he headed, as well as his alleged foreign investments.

"There's Mitt Romney, who ran the Salt Lake City Games, waving to China, home to a billion people. Thousands owe their jobs to Mitt Romney's companies," the voiceover says sarcastically

Did the exact same thing. Stopped reading at "Democrat". Can't be unbiased if it begins with their pathetic attempt at an insult.

Yup. The headline remains incorrect. The use of "Democrat" instead of "Democratic" is grammatically incorrect and is used by Republicans as a slap in the face to our party. Juvenile yes, but a slap just the same. Democrats would/should never use it.

The ad concludes with: "You've got to say this about Mitt Romney: he sure knows how to go for the gold -- for himself."

AFP may not know, or place emphasis on, the nuances between "Democrat" and "Democratic" usages here in the US.

Like it or not, and grammatically correct or not, this construction (i.e., "Democrat" instead of "Democratic&quot has slipped into widespread, popular usage. So perhaps we need to refrain from being too quick to jump on every single instance in which it is used; especially when, as here, the intent was benign.

it to go unchallenged. Every time I hear some Republican use the prejorative and the Democrat or so-called liberal pundit doesn't correct the Republican, I go crazy! We can say what we will about Chris Matthews, but he is the ONLY pundit that I know of that corrects the prejorative each and every time a ReTHUG utters that crap.
