Sterling Heights official wants councilman to quit over inflammatory '09 video
By Serena Maria Daniels
Sterling Heights City Council is expected Wednesday night to consider a resolution calling for the resignation of Councilman Paul Smith, who is at the center of controversy over a video in which he was seen holding inflammatory signs depicting violence against President Barack Obama and others during a 2009 tea party rally.
Mayor Pro Tem Michael Taylor told The Detroit News he was drafting a resolution that urges Smith to step down from his post after he saw the video. Taylor described the images in the video, which runs 3 minutes and 15 seconds, as "incredibly disturbing."
"It's beyond unreasonable for anyone to do, and it's obvious we're dealing with someone who is completely irrational," Taylor said.
In the video posted on YouTube, Smith, a self-described tea party member, displayed signs that showed an illustration of the impaled head of the president with a stake through his skull, then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm with a noose wrapped around her neck and U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with blood-splattered bullet holes in her face.

(20 posts)People elected this man. He couldn't have hidden his agenda that well, so they voted for someone with extreme and malicious attitudes. They voted for what they got.
