Top Obama political adviser draws comparison of Ryan and Palin, says Romney will regret choice

Source: AP

WASHINGTON — A senior political adviser to President Barack Obama is likening Mitt Romney’s selection of Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate to John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin.

David Axelrod tells “CBS This Morning” he recalls “that kind of excitement four years ago” when McCain presented Palin to the country as his choice for vice president. Axelrod says in Monday’s interview he thinks the selection of Ryan, who is popular with tea party figures — as Palin was — is “not going to be a plus for Mr. Romney.”

Axelrod says he likes Ryan personally, but he also is labeling the Wisconsin Republican “a certifiable right-wing ideologue.”

Or is “a certifiable right-wing ideologue” just a jab at being way over in wacko territory?

The two campaigns are like coaches trying to get a psychological advantage
by bickering through sound bites in the press.

In this case, though, Axlerod is a heavyweight, and he speaks the truth, and
the Romney camp knows it. But their response, being the Tea Party Narcissists
they are, will be to ignore the ideologue label and attack, attack, attack and
promote themselves as the solution which plays right into the 'ideologue' label.

So, pushed into their own self-aggrandizement, they play further right and
wind up preaching to the Tea Party Chorus, leaving Obama with the political
middle.

The only risk for Obama is all the Citizens United money and the strident
Ryan attacks.

If Romney had wanted to tone down the rhetoric and debate on issues,
as he said, this pick didn't do it. This is a polarizing pick and one far outside
the political mainstream. It does not allow Romney to do what GWBush did,
which was to sound mainstream and lie about his intent. Romney-Ryan's
fingerprints are all over this one!

The 'ideologue' label is applied with inner glee at good fortune. Let's hope
Obama-Biden makes the most of it.

they could have put mickey mouse on the ticket and they were still going to get the base. paul ryan will NOT get them women, minorities, independents, gays, etc. They simply shored up a base they were going to get anyway. Stupid, stupid move.

a good VP pick can't win the election, but a bad pick can lose the election.

Makes the Ryan choice more mystifying. Surely there is a conservative without the divisive views on SS and Medicare. Smacks of desperation on Romney's part for support of the base.

I think the powers that be know the presidency is lost. While immoral, these are not stupid men. They need the radical, low income voters to come out to vote solid crazy tea party red. So they offer them Ryan who, much like Palin, inspires those who hate themselves and vote to screw themselves. So i think they did a smart thing to try to hold congress. They will keep their crazy districts, as least, and that may be the best they can hope for now.

The guy may be far right and a dozen other bad things, but he's not a gibbering idiot.

This is amusing and effective as an insult, but they don't strike me as particularly similar. But, I suppose they meant the effect not the person. Um, which does make it accurate.

has it only been four years since Palin was forced on us? I swear it feels like we've been dealing with her for decades. I wish she would go away and take Ryan with her.
