MOSCOW, August 13 (RIA Novosti)
Relations between the United States and Russia may suffer as a result of new, wide-ranging U.S. sanctions introduced against Iran, a Russian Foreign Ministry official said on Monday.
Washington should
be aware that our bilateral relations will be seriously affected if the applied American restrictions affect Russian economic players that interact with their Iranian counterparts in strict compliance with our legislation and UN Security Council resolutions, Maria Zakharova, deputy director of the information and press department at the Foreign Ministry, said in a statement on the ministry's website.
U.S. President Barack Obama signed a fresh set of sanctions into law on Monday to pressure Iran over its nuclear program. The law strengthens current restrictions and applies extra penalties on countries working with Iran across a variety of sectors, from oil to insurance and shipping.
This is about new restrictive measures directed not only against Iran, but against foreign companies and individuals who cooperate with it, including in the spheres of hydrocarbons, petrochemicals, financial and insurance sectors, the Ministry statement said.

Certain interests WANT WAR. And war they will have.
Lindy England, the Stryker team, all those little horror stories of Americans behaving badly. ALL DELIBERATE.
Not in the sense that those individuals were ordered to go out and do the things they did. But because it's been known for decades if not centuries, EXACTLY how groups with a collective identity will behave if left to their own devices and oversight is withheld.

Iran Declines U.S. Aid Offer After Earthquake
The U.S. has offered disaster assistance to Iran in the wake of a devastating earthquake that left more than 300 people dead, but an Iranian official declined the offer.
The American people send the Iranian people our deepest condolences for the loss of life in the tragic earthquake in northwestern Iran, a White House statement said. Our thoughts are with the families of those who were lost, and we wish the wounded a speedy recovery. We stand ready to offer assistance in this difficult time.
Iran, however, declined the help, saying it was handling the matter internally. We will carry out relief work by relying on our domestic potential, Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar told Bloomberg.

(2,842 posts)having solid and non confrontational relations with Russia is more important than relations with Israel and the poster above makes an excellent point about offering assistance to Iran in the wake of the earthquake.

And as noted above, the US has offered assistance to Iran in the wake of the earthquake and Iran declined.

(283 posts)First my thoughts and prays go out to the victims of the Iranian Earthquake. On the political side of this story that will be left for another time and place. Also I read recently that the United States Navy rescued some Iranian sailors when their boat caught on fire.
