Supporters unite in Tampa for the love of Ron Paul
Source: Tampa Bay Times
Paul's disciples some still holding out hope he could earn the Republican nomination at the party convention this week gathered at the Florida State Fairgrounds on Saturday in an event called the PAUL Festival (People Awakening and Uniting for Liberty).

There was no love for the Republican Party or its all-but-confirmed presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. Mentions of Romney dubbed "the anti-Ron Paul" by one speaker elicited impassioned boos.
"The Republican Party has been like Lucy with the football, and all these suckers every year are Charlie Brown," said Thomas Woods, a libertarian historian and analyst. "A vote for Mitt Romney is a vote for the status quo, and anyone who thinks otherwise is absolutely delusional."
"Dr. Paul will never endorse such a reprehensible human being."

(5,420 posts)I read here on DU that the repig convention is going to show a Ron Paul video during the convention and have Rand Paul speak, I think.
I took this as a compromise for RP (Ron Paul) to get his flock in control. They would only let RP speak if he endorsed Mitt. I don't think he is speaking. (but Rand is) Wouldn't the paulbots just flip out if their master endorsed Romney?
I'm hoping for a scene. Not violence, just an uncomfortable and embarrassing moment for Rmoney's convention.

(6,045 posts)The Ron Paul adherents said he would NEVER do it but he did...There will be no showdown in Tampa as they thought! LOL!! The thing is Ron Paul is a REPUBLICAN but his supporters fail to understand this...Republicans stick together almost always!!

(5,420 posts)I would have to say that making nice with RP before the convention may be the smartest move Rmoney has made yet. It diffuses the biggest threat (besides hurricane) to his convention.
Smartest move. lol I can't think of one other smart move.

(10,857 posts)For years now the Libertarians have been languishing on the fringe of American politics, kicking around Heinleinesque plots to take over an entire state, for example (and tell me they weren't looking at Utah when they came up with that).
They have long since given up on broadening their own appeal and now instead are seeking to infiltrate the GOP--a genuine windmill-tilt if I've ever seen one because the GOP is clearly owned by someone and the Libertarians are not welcome within that scam.
The Libertarians think that this is their opportunity to get their message out, to get their ideas on the planks, to put one of their people in the running mate slot, and to complete the deification of their figurehead leader, Ron Paul.
They aren't going to get a damned one of those things, and I don't think they "know" that yet.
But I know it, and so shall the rest of you within 72 hours.

(6,045 posts)However, I never for a minute thought Ron Paul would cause any problems for the GOP...As much as his nutty followers thought he would Ron Paul is a loyal Republican when all else is done. Seriously, Ron Paul is exactly like most other Republicans except on foreign policy &, well, Cannabis, but that is really just being used to attract young voters because Ron Paul has used & would continue using the Federal Government to go after women's rights & attack homosexuals & other not so "Libertarian" views/actions. Ron Paul is just as anti-science, if not more, as most other Republicans are...Ron Paul's proposed budget would cut science research funding by 85%!
Ron Paul, LOYAL Republican!

(10,893 posts)I can't believe that it hasn't occurred to them that he will not get the nomination, and that the majority of Americans (and perhaps even Republicans) don't want him in the WH. I'm not complaining, though; it's yet another thorn in R0bme's side.
But what Thomas Woods said was true, regarding the Charlie Brown analogy. Conservative billionaires dumped a pile of cash into negative ads to try to sway opinions of Republican voters, and they all supported the Richie Rich candidate to get the nomination. And I would also agree that a vote for him is a vote for the Status Quo--but then again, the same can be said about a vote for Ron Paul. In fact, that would be a vote for a return to the Gilded Age.

(11,464 posts)and rakes the money in and is a sell-out
He made a deal years ago (most likely with Tom (the dancing fool) Delay and that is how
he kept getting reelected (ala Wilson did in that movie).
He is paid for and bought and his ???fans??? must be smoking too much of the weed he seems
to love.
Why any democrat is a fan or thinks they should be is beyond me. I wouldn't want one vote from any of his supporters, he is the father of perhaps the single biggest obstructionist to democracy which is Rand dolittle but rake the money in Paul. And the two are in synch 100% of the time.
It is obvious that any democrat supporter has never looked at the draconian views they have with regard to any true democrat voter.
NOTHING they believe in fits in with the democrats. NOTHING.
(especially their views on women, sex, and any and all minorities.)
They want to go backward not forward yet for some reason some like him???
instead of the fed, let's audit him. And see how he raked in all those millions he has. Wish I had a fifth of his millions.
(and not to forget, but let's not even get into the support and friendship of David Duke).
