Revealed: The Dark Money Group Attacking Sen. Sherrod Browne

Source: Propublica

In May, a previously unknown group started pouring money into Ohio’s U.S. Senate race, considered one of the most important in the country and currently the nation’s most expensive. The group, the Government Integrity Fund, has spent over $1 million so far on TV ads bashing Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown and praising his Republican opponent, Josh Mandel.

Like many other such non-profit groups that are playing a dominant role in this year’s elections, the Government Integrity Fund is shrouded in mystery. It isn’t required to reveal donors, nor has it answered questions about who runs the group. The Fund’s barebones website lists no contact information beyond a P.O. Box.

The Associated Press reported last month that outside groups have spent $15 million supporting Mandel compared to about $3 million on the Democratic side.

We still don’t know who is putting up the money for the Government Integrity Fund’s ads because the group is a non-profit “social welfare” group, which don’t have to release donor information or register with the Federal Election Commission. Such groups are supposed to be “primarily” engaged in promoting social welfare but they have been flooding the airwaves with political ads in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United case and decisions by regulatory decisions.

I don't know about the IRS tho, but seems like it may be a tax write off. America for sale. The 5 justices truly fucked it up for regular folks like me. Need to get Citizens United overturned or stricken by an amendment, therefore, Dems need to take back the house and keep & senate & WH. "Citizens" do not apply to us, it should be re-named as the "1% United".

Three-fourths of the States have to ratify any amendment becomes law and its not easy and with as many states as we have now under control of the GOP at that level the odds of such of an amendment are not good to say the least.

He is a very working class representitive and his wife Connie Schultz is a Buckeye State treasure.
No wonder they've targeted his seat. The ones I see here the most are from Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS.

They've been screwing around with Ohio elections for years, mainly through front groups that only get revealed after the election. This sure looks like their M.O.

by business interests and the 1%! They have pushed Tort Reform, judge's elections, other political campaigns... As part of a master plan to run the country behind the scenes. Check out their newspapers tha they have right outside jury empaneling rooms. Ours is the Southeasttexasrecord.com. They put these papers in places they consider to be Judicial Hellholes. For the 1st year they did not sell ads until they realized that people would know it was a fake paper. The opinions page is where they do most of their work now. Used to be all of the articles were slanted heavily. Now they are more subtle, but they know which cases are starting trial so their front page may attack medical malpractice cases as frivolous if a med mal case was starting that week. Their 1st issue was like that, and they were so proud they handed it out to the prospective jurors that were outside the 2 court rooms that were starting trials that morning. The 2 front page stories, med mal and asbestos suits matched the 2 trials about to pick juries. Our case was the asbestos mesothelioma death case. We sued for jury tampering but were later thrown out. Now the paper talks smack about my boss in almost every issue and the U.S. Chamber made us their #1 enemy for awhile on their website. We were so proud!
