Va. GOP orders affiliate to remove offensive Obama photos

Source: Washington Post

RICHMOND — State Republican Party officials on Tuesday ordered their Mecklenburg County affiliate to remove photos portraying President Obama as a witch doctor, a caveman and a thug from its Facebook page.

The photos have been on the Mecklenburg County Republican Committee’s page for months, but drew attention outside the rural southwestern enclave after a luncheon event this week with Republican Senate candidate George Allen.

“These kinds of images have no place in political discourse — period,” said Pat Mullins, chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia. “They are offensive, tasteless and should never have been posted anywhere, let alone a local unit’s Facebook page. The Republican Party of Virginia condemns this sort of imagery in the strongest possible terms. I am in the process of contacting our Mecklenburg County unit to inform them that this is unacceptable behavior from any local unit associated with our party.”

As part of a campaign swing through the southwestern part of the state, the former senator and governor held a business roundtable luncheon Monday that the committee had helped promote. ProgressVA, a group that supports Allen’s Democratic opponent, former governor Timothy M. Kaine, found the images among 100 “wall photos” posted on the committee’s Facebook page.

The rest of us may scream and squirm... But THAT is their reality.

Disturbing and F'ed up, but it is how many, many parts of the South see 'reality'.

We have not come very far as a nation.

I'm really glad they decided to speak up about it. I would have preferred their condemnation of the blatantly racist photos sooner; but better late than never. I hope they'll stop attempting to appeal to America's white trash vote.

anyone have the link they could share? Born in Va. spent most of my life here and as a registered voter here if they are still up as a registered voter I would like to post how these childish pranks and antics of our state representatives (can anyone say vaginal probe) has made Va. home of several of our founder fathers one of the biggest joke in this nation. Thomas Jefferson must be spinning in his grave.

It would have been bad PR to ignore it. But you are right; that's what more than just a few of them think.
