Romney: ‘I’m going to win Pennsylvania’

Source: Washington Post (Election 2012 Blog)

President Obama may have a solid lead in Pennsylvania, and neither presidential campaigns is airing television advertisements in the state, but Mitt Romney thinks he could win it in November.

...

In Pennsylvania, Obama holds an 8-percentage point lead in the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls. In 2008, when both Obama and Republican nominee John McCain contested the state, Obama won 54 percent to 44 percent.

...

“You know, we really would shock people if early in the evening on Nov. 6 it looked like Pennsylvania was going to come our way and actually did come our way,” Romney said. “That could happen. That could happen.”

...

As Romney’s motorcade left his fundraiser at the Union League Club in downtown Philadelphia, several dozen protesters were singing, “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, good bye!”

The War College is in Pennsylvania. Colonels are its students; this is where you go to learn to be a general. High ranking officers know two things - Obama has been okay to the military and Romney's spending goals, unless he's more clear about how he wants to spend the money, are just waste and abuse. The current threat facing this country is from low-level fighters - terrorism and insurgency. These are best fought with Green Berets and SEALs. Romney seems to want to rebuild the army that would stop the Soviets at the Fulda Gap.

Judge suggests striking part of Pa. voter ID law

Lebanon Daily News

http://www.ldnews.com/ci_21652071/judge-suggests-striking-part-pa-voter-id-law?source=most_viewed

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A judge considering a challenge to a politically charged Pennsylvania law that requires voters to show photo identification suggested Thursday he may strike part of it so that someone who doesn't have a valid ID at the polls can cast a provisional ballot that will still count without getting one.

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson made the suggestion toward the end of a hearing on the issue, and lawyers for the plaintiffs seeking to halt enforcement of the entire law before the Nov. 6 presidential election quickly protested it, saying it could cause even more problems and confusion.

Simpson said he was seeking a way to target "the part of the act that's the offending activity, the disenfranchising part." Under the new law, someone who does not have a valid ID at the polls can cast a provisional ballot, but it won't count unless they show a valid photo ID to county election officials within six days of the election.

What Simpson seems to be considering would excuse a voter without valid ID at the polls from having to get it and show it later.

The constitutionality of the law is not a question in front of Simpson. Instead, the judge is under orders from the state Supreme Court to issue an injunction of the law for this year's election if he finds the state has not met the law's promise of providing free and easy access to a photo ID or if he believes it will prevent any registered voters from casting a ballot.

Simpson must rule by Tuesday, just five weeks before the election.

54. do provisional ballots ever get counted?
Sat Sep 29, 2012, 07:55 PM
Sep 2012

personally i am not comfortable with casting a vote and letting someone decide later if it will be counted.
i know what the official process is supposed to be for those ballots but does that actually ever happen?
all these ballots have already been challenged or the voter would have been able to cast her/his vote like a real citizen.
are each of these ballots challenged again by the partisan hacks who observe the counting?
or, do they just sit in a box until the election officials decide that they don't like the tally?
then, are they sifted through to find the ones that support a particular candidate?
do officials even try to verify if the vote was legitimate? what process is used to verify provisional ballots? if the ballot is valid does the voter go back on the voter rolls?
i think that the provisional ballot was conceived as a way to assuage voter rage over disenfranchisement. tell rejected voters that their vote will count if they use the "not regular" but the "special' ballot. they go home less angry than they would if they were just rejected but no more certain that their voice was heard.
i would like some follow-up on how those provisionals are working including:
what percentages of them were valid?
what was done to verify the voter's right to cast a vote?
what demographics were most affected by having to vote that way?
which party had to cast more provisional votes?

Yes, if votes are being switched electronically.

That's exactly how it would be: oh my, what a shock,

It wasn't a campaign stop. Indeed, he has no campaign stops planned in PA. He has no ads up in PA.

So, what does that tell you.

Of course when you're desperate to raise money because your campaign is going broke, you have to promise victory. But even the people in the room know damn well that Romney can't win Pennsylvania. They know damn well he's not campaigning there. They know damn well that their money is better spent elsewhere. It's ridiculous.

I've read stories that Romney is a decent guy, I think he is a delusional guy at this point. I think now is the time to put our collective foot on his throat and end it this first debate. Just expose him on national TV for how much he is in over his head, let him know that America is not a fourtune 500 company looking to be raided by Bain capital. That all the smooth talking he learned as a missonary changing people to Mormonisn won't work here and now. He has sold his soul for a chance to be president of the far right and now that is where he is; on the far right with no chance to see the middle again. Mitt you screwed the pooch and now you must pay the fiddeler. lol

Between all of the voter suppression tactics (clearing the rolls, submitting false registrations that people have moved, etc.), voter ID idiocy, and voting machine chicanery, I'm getting really nervous about how this election can be tampered with.
And when Mitt says things like he's not worried about PA, that he'll win, despite the fact that the polls say he's trailing big, despite the fact that he's not advertising there or spending a whole lot of time there, it just reinforces some suspicions for me.
