Condoleezza Rice endorses Deb Fischer (R-NE)

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joseph Morton

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Saturday threw her support behind Deb Fischer in the Nebraska Senate race.

The high-profile endorsement comes in the closing days of the contest between the Republican Fischer and Democrat Bob Kerrey.

Rice was Secretary of State under President George W. Bush and is now a professor at the Stanford University.

Fischer noted that she met Rice at a briefing earlier this year.

what connection does Condi Rice have to Fischer, or Nebraska? Sounds like the GOP is nervous and dug up whatever political figure they could find at the last minute to endorse her.

Chuck endorsed Bob Kerrey recently and is featured in ads airing in Nebraska. Sure he's a republican but still someone I respect and someone that can highlight Kerrey as a fair minded person who can work across party lines as is the theme of his campaign.

GOP is probably shocked at how poorly this is going. All ads are for Kerrey hitting hard on ethics and positive ads focused on what Kerrey has done for this country. Fisher ads say "nuh uh" or trumpet how Kerrey said something nice about a Democrat once. Is Condi respected in any circles anymore?

much weight her endorsement would carry. I just think it's weird and random, even though the article says they met once at a conference or something. I think in the end, Hagel's endorsement of Kerrey might help with middle of the road types--Indies and conserative Dems (which are pretty much the only kind in Nebraska anyway), not so much with Repubs, who are still probably pissed at him for his last few years in the Senate defying Bush/Crashcart (and for his helpfulness towards Obama). Condi might help with Repubs, I can't see anyone else being swayed by her. She can't separate herself from that administration's MASSIVE failures very well. I don't live in Nebraska anymore, so I'm just watching from a distance--but I always thought the politics there were interesting.

is whether she is willing in trial at the Hague to testify against her co-conspirators (Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz et al.) on charges of planning and waging aggressive war and commission of crimes against humanity in Iraq and around the world.

Rove has dumped over a half-million dollars recently into this race in support of Fischer. Not sure how this helps Fischer after Kerrey cleaned her clock on national security issues in the debates. Her only hope is that nobody was watching.

of the same skin color tells them to? African-americans have been voting for white people for years, making up their own minds based on facts, not endorsements.

How about Paul Wolfowitz?! Ummm......no. Dick Cheney? DEFINITELY NOT! How about GWB himself? Nobody is that desperate. Besides, the GOP is doing nearly everything in its power to make sure GWB does not escape his cage and stays well out of sight. Like I said in a previous post once, the GOP doesn't like to talk about HIM.
