GOP Rejects White House Opening Budget Bid

Republicans have rejected President Obamas opening budget bid.
In a Capitol meeting with House Speaker John Boehner Thursday, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner submitted the Obama administrations proposal for addressing medium term deficits, and avoiding across the board tax increases and spending cuts at the end of the year.
Republicans called the proposal outlandish and brushed it aside as unserious. But its almost entirely comprised of policies Obama campaigned on and included in his budget for the current fiscal year. And by satisfying GOP demands that Obama offer up a plan that includes spending cuts, it paints Republicans, who have been reluctant to specify their own Medicare cut proposal, into a tight corner.
The White House formally proposes to increase tax revenues by $1.6 trillion over 10 years by increasing top marginal income tax rates and taxes on both capital gains and dividends, and by limiting tax deductions for top earners, according to Republicans.
Obama proposes to reinstate the estate tax at its 2009 level, as well as patch the alternative minimum tax.

(6,891 posts)70% of the people accept. This is no time for compromise. Obama needs to shove these proposals down these GOP fuckers throats or up their asses. Pick your own imagery, but that's what needs to be done, otherwise we're right back to square one with these assholes, just like we've been for the last four years..

(7,549 posts)Much rather have the House with less tea baggers and the Senate with the added Democrats deal with it, then leave it to these lame duck asses. Hopefully the next Senate can find a way to block any cuts at all.

(83,818 posts)Until such time that it takes the AHoles GOP and Baggers in congress to agree to the terms of 70% off the the People. As your employers we will suspend the following privilages...
1.) Your pay will be suspended until you come to terms with The Peoples requests.
2.) All Health Benefits, which we the tax payers are picking up the tab, will become null and void. I would suggest you find a privatized plan on the open market.
3.) Any and all travel expenses will be paid out of pocket.
4.) ALL vacation time is voided. You will be required to work 40+ hours a week. As do most Americans.
5.) Your government credit cards are also null and void. No more free lunches on our time.
6.) All Potty privileges must be submitted in writing to management before you leave the floor.
Any infractions of these rules will be cause for termination forthwith!
WE the American look forward to your compliance to these rules.
Now get out on the floor and do your jobs you slackers. America is watching!

(2,730 posts)and I'm loving the responses. I think we created a monster people. That is the only way to negotiate with them. All President Obama has to do is act like he is about to take out Osama Bin Laden.

(17,390 posts)Republicans engage in a choreagraphed hissy fit and no one asks them what cuts are they demanding or why isn't Democratic offers to extend tax cuts to 98 percent of Americans acceptable? Think about it. Democrats are willing to give Republicans 98 percent of what they are asking for in terms of tax cuts, yet Republicans are claiming that what Democrats are offering is a non-starter?
Also, Ryan included Iraq war savings in his proposed budget, but when Democrats do so, it is a non-starter?

(6,323 posts)killing progressive talk here in the north west, am 1090 will gone in January as will another in Oregon to make way for yet another sports channel. Because the "progressive audience" has dwindled in the last 2 years so sports is supposed to be more profitable in those time slots.
Bullshit.
I'll bet money all progressive talk on AM will be all gone by the end of next year. Way to kill an opposing voice, and isn't that a basic play in their game book.
Media domination and manipulation needs to end yesterday because that's where all the "tools" who get "used" go for their news.
I've got free speech TV and the internet at least, but what about those who can't afford it?

(10,597 posts)Tell them they have until 6pm New Year's Eve to make up their minds.
And if they don't show up before 6pm sharp, 12-31-12, push the cliff button,
Then get all prettied up and hit the town!!!!!
them like they like we treat our Foreign enemies. Just consider this the first condition on lifting sanctions. We dictate the Terms here! You got till that time until we apply more sanctions. Tax increases will be off the table and we want need it any more. Then we will present you another offer to cut taxes. And if you want to increase funding for defense after that date, then we might think about it if you agree to increase spending for one of our projects. Those are the terms.

(10,597 posts)I like the sound of sanctions. Yeah, that's the ticket.
We won the election. The ball's in our hands now. I get so sick of their condescensions and the way they dictate to everyone up there. The way they act, you would think THEY won the election.
Yes, I like your idea of sanctions.
