Syrian Anonymous hacks embassy website to decry Assad, support rebels

Hackers claiming to be from Syrian Anonymous have hacked the website for the Syrian Embassy in Belgium, posting a statement supporting the revolution and decrying President Bashar Assad; the president’s wife, Asmaa; and the “United States and European countries” for not supporting their professed humanitarian principles. While this anonymous demonstration and its catchy choice of background music may be going up on a foreign embassy site, far from where the conflict is reportedly going down in between the Syrian government and rebel forces, it’s nevertheless a small signal to the outside world that free speech cannot be entirely silenced by Thursday’s Internet and phone blackout that has shut down communication to Syria.
