NBC offered Ronna McDaniel a better contract to appear on MSNBC

Source: Washington Post

MSNBC President Rashida Jones participated in recruiting former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel earlier this month and McDaniel was offered a more lucrative contributor contract after she agreed to appear on MSNBC and not just NBC News, according to people familiar with the matter.

NBC News said on Tuesday that McDaniel — who repeatedly backed Donald Trump in raising questions about the validity of the 2020 election and helped organize a scheme involving alternate electors — would not appear on the network as a paid contributor after MSNBC’s anchors repeatedly attacked the hiring and called for the decision to be reversed.

But Jones had a one-on-one video call in early March after an executive at NBC News orchestrated the contact, according to the people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal discussions.

McDaniel was concerned she would face particularly harsh interviews, and the liberal-leaning viewers would not respond to her positively, according to people with knowledge of her concerns. Her original preference was just to appear on NBC News, the people said, and early talks with the network had centered around NBC appearances.

No effing kidding. I guess she must have a few functioning brain cells, since she was able to figure that out!

Not a smart idea, NBC excecs. Pretty darned stupid, actually.

I'm really proud of the MSNBC folks for sticking to their principles and letting the network fat cats know they were making a huge mistake. At least some of the NBC staff deserve credit, too. It sounds like those network honchos didn't know what hit them!

Republicans love it because now being far right means being ok with violent insurrection and political executions. I blame corporate America and evangelicals. But also those in our party who thought moderate wouldn’t have consequences. I used to be livid over it. With age I understand meeting in the middle and not being extreme. But I also realize we lose battles when we go soft milquetoast.

a coup d'etat! They are traitors! Yet, these types of people are ready to move on and say, oh well, I guess it's all water under the bridge. Instead of jail, let's put them on our channel and get their commentary on what is happening in the news.

Wow. Yes, they need to be fired. But this is symptomatic of a larger problem with our whole country.

Let's say what is the actual truth - You're a F'ing liar and the people who normally watch MSNBC don't like being lied to and gaslighted. So that statement means if you're conservative, you love to lie and your audience loves to hear that. Rashida Jones should be docked all the money paid to this charlatan.

I'll pick up free YouTube videos now and then, but I stopped watching them regularly.

I feel that they are ashamed to be identified as liberal. It's like they hate their audience and are always trying to turn them into Republicons. They only have about 3 hours of decent liberal broadcasting anyway. All the rest of their programming is very Republicon light.

It's kind of funny how corporate
media thinks of their audience. Fox thinks their audience is stupid and MSNBC hates their audience.

... thinking this was EVER a good idea. WTF were they thinking? Are they so disconnected from reality of these people that they thought this would make them money? From WHOM?

The Bosses at NBC should gut the news managment that pushed this through. Absolute incompetence, and the shareholders should emand some heads.
