Manhattan DA opposes Trump's demand to delay hush money trial over 'prejudicial' media coverage

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) office is opposing former President Trump’s demand that his fast-approaching hush money trial be delayed because of prejudicial publicity.

In court papers made public Wednesday, prosecutors argued the April 15 trial date should go ahead as planned, noting it was Trump’s eighth bid to postpone the schedule as part of his broader legal strategy to delay all four of his criminal trials beyond the November election. Prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote that the national attention surrounding the case isn’t likely to subside, and Trump “deliberately generates press attention himself.”

“Defendant simply cannot have it both ways: complaining about the prejudicial effect of pretrial publicity, while seeking to pollute the jury pool himself by making baseless and inflammatory accusations about this trial, specific witnesses, individual prosecutors, and the Court itself,” Colangelo wrote in the new filing.

Trump last week renewed his demand that the trial be postponed indefinitely because of the barrage of media coverage on his hush money case, which in less than two weeks is slated to become the first criminal trial of a former president. Trump claimed the coverage prejudices potential jurors, preventing a fair trial.

Serves him right as he knows that he won't fare well in front of a live jury. People are sick and tired of his mouth.

Never be prosecuted. Just an endless string of motions and appeals. And the trial hasn't even started yet.

I mean shouldn't most appeals happen after the trial. oh shit, they probably will.

Trump can stay out of jail just by filing appeal after appeal.

I'd love the judge to tell TSF, 'Look, you gormless git, it's your own fault that the case has drawn so much publicity. You're the one who whinges about it on social media, whinges to the press about it in any interview you seek out, and whinges about it at your rallies with the press watching.'

Even your average criminal knows to shut up and let the lawyers do all the talking, preferably in court. Then again, even the average criminal can not only get a decent attorney, but also get one who tells them: 'You hired me for a reason--to do the talking for you, because you don't know squat about how to deal with the court system. That's my job. Your job is to shut up and let me do my job. But if you want to go to jail, then open that fool mouth of yours. Just don't blame me when you're serving 25 years in supermax, even though I could have gotten you a fraction of that in a minimum security nick--if not finding a way to let you leave the court free as a bird.'

But nobody can tell this fool anything. He thinks lawyers aren't partners in helping him get through the courts with as little pain as possible, but lackeys to do his bidding the way he wants it done. Except...

The Slobfather is the classic entitled defendant like in the fictional story:

A boy kills his parents then begs the court for mercy because he’s an orphan.
