Bryan Fischer: ‘Enormously insensitive’ to hurt God’s feelings by not using oil
By David Edwards
Friday, November 30, 2012 13:53 EST

Bryan Fischer, the director of issues analysis of the conservative fundamentalist American Family Association, on Thursday told a so-called “expert” who denies climate change that not using God’s fossil fuels would be like “crushing” someone’s feelings by rejecting their birthday present.

The Cornwall Alliance’s Calvin Beisner, who has previously said that believing in climate change “is an insult to God,” explained on Thursday that the Bible said it was also very rude to not use oil, coal and natural gas.

“The wicked and lazy master was the one who buried his talent in the ground and didn’t do anything to multiply it,” Beisner explained. “That’s essentially what those who say we need to stop using oil, coal and natural gas are telling us to do. Just leave those resources buried in the ground, rather than pulling them out and multiplying their value for human benefit.”

Fischer likened the situation to a birthday present he was given at the age of six.

“I opened up a birthday present that I didn’t like, and I said it right out, ‘Oh, I don’t like those,’” the radio host recalled. “And it just crushed — and the person that gave me gift was there. You know, I just kind of blurted it out, ‘I don’t like those.’ And it just crushed that person. It was enormously insensitive of me to do that.”

there are three sets of people who seem to rise to leadership in christian churches. There are some genuinely good people who do amazing good. But there are also true believers who often enough do enormous harm. And there are sociopaths who wear a mantle of Christianity for the power they can gain from it. Ive often wondered which of the latter two do the church more harm.

These people constantly think they know the absolute and ultimate definition of things such as: "resources" and "value" and "human benefit" and if you don't agree with them, you're anti-all-of-that.

They are those to whom Nietzsche was referring when he said "god is dead" because we/such-people have shrunk her down to a bite size quid pro quo and killed everything but that.

And we have to use them not to offend this God even if using them will result in a catastrophe of astronomic proportions including starvation, death and the slow death of the planet?

Calvin, you might want to re-read that parable.

“The wicked and lazy master was the one who buried his talent in the ground and didn’t do anything to multiply it,” Beisner explained.

First, the parable is a parable. And it pretty much represents the exact opposite of exploiting anything to the point of exhaustion and world destroying effects.

But secondly, the one that buried his talents, was a servant; not a master.

Thank you for taking the time to share these outstanding videos here.

We need to hear material like this far more than the opportunities we are given, reflecting time spent thinking things through and courage in daring to voice them in public in a country where we have "religious" people with murderous impulses.

Definitely enjoyed.

people like this guy are free entertainment.

Like someone said, you can't make this stuff up, and the material just writes itself.

They are our higher power's gift to the comedians.

Now if we could just figure out a good antidote for the kool-aid this man is selling....

104. I also prefer to take my gifts and burn them in front of the giver

Much better than just saying you don't like a present, you take it and burn it down. Sends a much more clear message. Bet you never get that gift again!

as a gift, he rips it to shreds until he gets the squeaker out. At this point I have to take it away (choking hazard) and the whole game is over.

Instead of being content with the gift I gave him, he spoils it. Every time. He has great fun, but in the end he always loses.

You'd think that an all-powerful God would not be so susceptible to petty personal slights.

Besides: why be so selective? If it's 'rude' to God not to use the oil He has provided, why is it not rude to restrain your sex urges which He has by the same token provided; or to avoid using alcohol or marijuana?

Powerful, sure, but needs people to worship him, praise him, pray to him to fix the things he got wrong, and really, really sensitive to what puny, stupid ape people think of him and the world he runs? What a wuss. My God could kick his ass.

I chopped up their expensive antique furniture to burn in the fireplace. I thought it was a gift and I was supposed to use it.
