(2,193 posts)The multiple shooters have a political ideology of "none". Most likely is they have never voted and are under 18.

The religious festival Eid al-Fitr, or the Festival of Breaking the Fast, is one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world. In the United States, Eid al-Fitr 2024 is predicted to begin around April 10 (depending on sightings of the crescent moon). This year the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid coincides with a solar eclipse.
Also known as the Lesser Eid, Eid al-Fitr commemorates the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. An occasion for special prayers, family visits, gift-giving and charity, it takes place over one to three days, beginning on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.
The Islamic Calendar
Though some Muslims observe other special days throughout the year, including the beginning of the new year according to the Islamic calendar and the day the Prophet Muhammad was born, the two Eids are the only holidays celebrated by the entire Muslim community worldwide. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the fast of Ramadan, while Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) occurs at the end of the annual pilgrimage season.

Both were special holidays. Often, special cookies were baked as well , with gifts also given to the children on Aïd es-Sgrir, somewhat akin to Christmas.

A police source told CNN that the attack was not a mass shooting connected to the Muslim celebration, but rather an exchange of gunfire between two groups outside the mosque.

(14,928 posts)Eid al-Fitr back at n the early '00s, though I knew what Ramadan was in general, as well as Muslims having to make the Hajj.
I knew a few Muslims then, and would sometimes bring oranges to break their fast later after sundown.
Plus Muslims married into one of my extended family so it becomes a bit personal, too.

(25,515 posts)PHILADELPHIA - Multiple people were injured as dozens of shots were fired during an Eid al-Fitr event in West Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon where around 1,000 attendees gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
According to police, at around 2:26 p.m. three people were shot during an end of Ramadan event near the 4700 block of Wyalusing Avenue. One of the wounded was shot by a police officer.
Approximately 30 gunshots were fired during the shooting, officials say.
An officer assigned to the area engaged a 15-year-old who Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel says was armed with a gun. Sources say the 15-year-old was armed with an assault rifle. The officer shot the teen once in his left arm and once in his left leg when police say he did not drop the gun.

More were arrested than were shot.
They were not affiliated with the Eid celebration and were shooting at each other before arriving at the event.
