Pacific Nations Alarmed by Tuna Overfishing
MANILA, Philippines December 2, 2012 (AP)

Pacific island governments and environmentalists are raising an alarm over destructive fishing methods and overfishing that are threatening the bigeye tuna — a fish popular among sushi lovers the world over.

Palau fisheries official Nanette Malsol, who leads a delegation from a bloc of Pacific island nations, said Sunday at the start of a weeklong tuna fisheries conference in Manila that large countries should cut back on fishing, curb the use of destructive fishing methods and respect fishing bans to allow tuna stocks to be replenished in the Pacific Ocean, the world's largest tuna fishing grounds.

Malsol said small island nations like Palau have launched conservation efforts, but many foreign industrial fishing fleets have tried to skirt restrictions and continued to catch tuna beyond sustainable levels.

And it's too bad that just thinking something or just saying it often seems to produce a feeling of satisfaction that is satisfying enough to an individual that they do not feel compelled to take it any further. How many times do we hear stuff like, "I have a great idea for a movie" or "Spielberg should have done that or whatever.... and that event seems to end there. I mean the chutzpah, arrogance and delusion of our behavior is often astounding. For some reason, we abandon all common sense as if nothing ever applies to us, individually. I mean, smoking is bad but I'm not going to get cancer. WRONG. Texting and driving is bad but I am different -- I won't crash. Wrong. Are we all just big wet fleshy balls mostly water and contradictions that will be extinct in a thousand years? Very probably.

A movie made over 40 years ago about hot daze and soylent green. The dead oceans which then seemed so impossible but today could be TRUE in our future. For world governments to put the breaks on over fishing to ensure a future food resource is AMAZING.
