Rikers Island jail 'ready' to receive Donald Trump, says Eric Adams

Source: The Guardian

Tue 7 May 2024 14.57 EDT

The New York City mayor, Eric Adams, said the city’s notorious Rikers Island jail and its department of corrections were “ready” to receive Donald Trump, should the former US president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee make history and become the first former White House occupant ever put behind bars.

“They’re professionals,” Adams told reporters on Tuesday. “They’ll be ready.” Trump is already the first former president ever criminally charged, facing 88 criminal charges. But he could face temporary incarceration before any conviction, if he again violates a gag order in his New York trial on 34 charges concerning hush-money payments made as a form of election interference.

The former president has been repeatedly fined by the judge in the case, Juan Merchan, for social media outbursts. After holding Trump in contempt and fining him $1,000 for the 10th time, Merchan on Monday warned Trump the next step could be jail time.

“Mr Trump,” Merchan said, “as you know the prosecution has filed three separate motions to find you in criminal contempt. It appears that the $1,000 fines are not a deterrent. “The last thing I want to do is put you in jail. You are the former president of the United States and possibly the next president as well ... but at the end of the day, I have a job to do and part of that job is to protect the dignity of the judicial system.”

* an annoyance, a public shaming/scolding... but not earth-shattering. The only thing that will make a meaningful difference is for Trump to be jailed or confined. Even if it's just for 12 hours in a courtroom basement "holding cell"... I hope the press is allowed to take photos. I hope he's handcuffed when they do it.

19. Prison Intake Process
Tue May 7, 2024, 07:32 PM
May 7

A new inmate has to endure the dreaded Intake Process. Fingerprints anew, photos with ID number, strip search, body cavity search, barked orders, cursory medical examination (sometimes blood draw) while standing around naked. Issued new clothes.
Escorted to your cell. Read Rules and Regulations. Meet cell mate.
Zero privacy for everything bodily. *

It's a real fun time. Navarro feared/hated this more than "serving time". It is 100% humiliation and degrading.

This "Intake Process is required whether sentenced for 12 hours or 12 years. It's the same for women.

*[Even masturbation is forbidden and will be punished (Whitey Bulger).]

What more do they need to do? Vacuum the carpets, clean the windows and/or bars, put in fresh flowers?

Strip his fat ass naked, hose him down and anti-lice him. Conduct a cavity search, toss an orange prison jump suit at him and......

THROW HIS CRIMINAL TREASONOUS ASS IN JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

29. I think Bragg is warning TSF
Wed May 8, 2024, 04:58 AM
May 8

He hasn't asked for jail time for contempt of court. Now he's letting the evil one know: FAFO--ie, Bragg will be asking for jail time for the next violation.

He and Merchan are handling this the right way to rein the Evil One in and giving him no room to maneuver with appeals. You don't throw the book at this wanker right off. He's too litigious for that. You give him some rope, then let him hang himself, and no appeals court will rule against you for that.

That's exactly what Merchan and Bragg have done--played TSF for the moronic thug he is.

He's letting him know that the prosecution will take off the gloves and demand jail time for any future violations. This is TSF's last chance to straighten up his act...but Bragg knows that'll never happen, because the idiot is too bloody stupid to keep his mouth shut.

throwing him in Jail......It will be used by him to prove he is being persecuted, and elevate him to being a Martyr for their cause....

I can see him now, behind bars, having painted small red circles on his palms and the back of his hands, and holding his hands in the air for all his Evangelical Trump Humpers to see......I wouldn't put any theatrics or melodrama, past Trump and his handlers, after all we have witnessed......

20. If they did incarcerate him
Tue May 7, 2024, 07:35 PM

it would have to be in SuperMax where he has absolutely no contact with the public or outside world.
He can probably still make public, countless intelligence matters to other tyrants around the globe in retaliation....and we know how well he loves revenge.........

As I recall, that is the reason they didn't impeach Nixon, they were afraid he would start spouting all kinds of Intel. Better that he just went to San Clemente quietly and faded into the sunset.......Side note: Nixon had a beach front property in San Clemente. The whole area had previously been public, but I went there to surf in 75, or 76, and the Secret Service came out immediately and ordered me away from that stretch of Beach.......

33. He can't make calls to just anyone
Wed May 8, 2024, 05:18 AM
May 8

No prison lets inmates do that. He will have a list of people he can call limited to family, lawyers and a very few business/political associates, no more than about 15-20 total people. The warden + DA will have to authorise every name on that list. He has no reason to make any overseas calls, so no chance of calling foreigners. On top of all that, the prison will monitor every call he makes. Bragg will probably demand that lawyers surrender all electronic devices before visiting him, to prevent his going online to rage through social media.

So, no, he wouldn't be calling Putin or Kim Dim Son or whoever.

31. Dangerous move not to put him there
Wed May 8, 2024, 05:05 AM

If they don't put him in jail for blatant contempt of court, every criminal in the country will have a case if they get thrown in jail for contempt for fewer/lesser offenses. When enough of them win those cases, every criminal will be acting up in court, and then facing zero punishment for it. Then our courts will become chaos.

Merchan has to put him in jail, because not doing it will destroy our court system. That's far worse, and with longer consequences, than anything the MAGA scum can do.

Let him out for the days court isn't in session so he can campaign, but put him right back in the nights before he must be in court.

That will have him locked down four nights out of seven. He won't learn anything from it, but we'll get the satisfaction of knowing how miserable he'll be...although not nearly as miserable as he deserves to be.

accumulates like a bar tab (i.e. suspended until the trial is finished), he is going to spiral. He will freak out, commit more contempt, grow his jail tab, freak out more, etc.
