Manchin: ‘We need action’ on gun violence
Source: The Hill
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said the recent mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school has "changed the dialogue" on gun control and called for action to prevent future tragedies.
"It's time to move beyond rhetoric, we need to sit down and have a common sense discussion and move in a reasonable way," Manchin said Monday on MSNBCs Morning Joe. "This has changed the dialogue and it should move beyond dialogue -- we need action."
Manchin's comments come after a shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. on Friday that resulted in 27 dead, including 20 young children.
Manchin has been a strong advocate of gun ownership rights and was endorsed by the National Rifle Association Political Victory in October with an "A" rating.

He may be the bridge to help us make better gun control.

(244 posts)And he also has an uncanny ability to see which way the political wind blows. Joe Manchin would never, ever take a stand on principle. I always call his office to complain, today I called to say, Yay!

(24,347 posts)If you think Manchin won't shut up immediately, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
I would be more than happy to be proven wrong, but all signs point to Manchin making a calculated political move that could very well blow up in his face, not a principled stand.
