Club For Growth Urges Senators To Reject Hurricane Sandy Aid Package

The conservative group Club For Growth on Monday urged all senators to vote against a $60 billion spending package directed at Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
"When a natural disaster occurs, there is a textbook response by Congress - they cobble together an overpriced bill that isn't paid for, there's no accountability or oversight, and it's filled with pork," read a statement on the group's website. "This proposal is no different."
The Club indicated that the vote will be included in their 2012 congressional scorecard.

(31,849 posts)I have no problem with any interest group calling on Congress to do this or that ... It is a fundamental right in a Democracy.
Rather, what Congress needs to do is make these groups' campaign contributions, speaking fees, and all other influence money, unlawful. And for good measure, enact legislation prohibiting members of Congress from entering any industry they voted on for 5-10 years.

They did this during the KATRINA mess and the stink is still with the GOP. The area hit was pure BLUE so these souless creatures have nothing to lose by hurting people in those states .

(9,904 posts)Our Philosophy:
The goal of tax policy should be to raise the amount of money needed to fund legitimate functions of government while doing the least amount of damage to the economy and respecting the principle of treating taxpayers equally.
IF the Sandy package is NOT passed, it would be the MOST amount of damage to the economy AND it would not respect the principle of treating taxpayers equally.

(6,539 posts)My experience with the Coors family running in Colorado shows that this means: defense spending only.
Obviously the right question is, who decides the legitimate function of government? The Koch brothers and the Coors family! It sure isn't the majority of Americans anymore.

(662 posts)This is a reaction to GOP past performance. Remember it was Cheney who declared NO BID contracts for Iraq and Afghanistan privateers. Halliburtan and Blackwater over billed US taxpayers billions DURING A TIME OF WAR. So, this is just a reflection of their own PAST BAD ACTS. And of course, this is NY, NJ that need aid. Blue States.

(3,811 posts)it has nothing to do with growth. Refusing to help rebuild homes, businesses and infrastructure after a major natural disaster is clearly the opposite of growth. The only thing that unites them is a desire to not pay taxes.
