Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), a top Senate Democrat, said on Friday that the prospects for a deal between the White House and Congressional Democrats to avert the so-called fiscal cliff are "better than people think," the AP reports:
New York's Chuck Schumer tells NBC's "Today" show he's encouraged that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is getting "actively engaged" in talks to resolve the problem.
Appearing on the same show Friday, Republican Sen. John Thune noted a meeting later Friday among President Barack Obama and congressional leaders, saying, "It's encouraging that people are talking."

(10,497 posts)budget! We will cave on the chained CPI as well as other deep cuts. We should be doing stimulus on infrastructure and education, keep the safety nets unchanged and intact, and undergo massive military cuts. Being the world's policeman is bankrupting us, but the military industrial complex has their money spread around to almost every district, so this will not happen. We need to fight for COMPLETE CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM!
Just curious, obviously I think campaign finance reform is the most important issue facing us. What do other DU'ers think the most important issue facing us today? Also, do you believe that both parties are bought off by the corporations, or just the Republicans, a little or a lot of both?
