New Warnings on Sleeping Drugs
Source: MSNBC
In tonight's Healthier Me, the FDA has issued a new warning about popular sleep drugs after new studies showed they do not leave your system as quickly as previously thought.
New data from driving simulations and blood tests show that sleep drugs like Ambien, Ambien CR, and ZolpiMist can still be active the morning after use and could impair driving.
Women may be affected more because they metabolize the drug more slowly than men.

(23,421 posts)I get sinus headache after using Ambien almost every time. Apparently, there are a lot of other people who feel the same way.
And I definitely still have semi-sleep state when awake after 8 hours.

(12,296 posts)I didn't sleep, I blacked out. Then had the most vivid, horrifying nightmares & would wake up' stiff/sore from not falling asleep naturally (skewed neck, grinding teeth etc) and be more tired than had I just tossed n' turned all night.
I got away from that shit & started taking a couple Valerian Root (herbal base of Valium) caps mixed in with tea before bed. Much gentler sleep, real rest, no hangover.

(2,354 posts)Used for an aging ill dog and later for a family member who wasn't able to get enough rest.
Our dog was able to rest peacefully which was a gift in his last year. The family member never took another sleeping tablet again, given the great results with the Melatonin. Note: sleeping tablet use was infrequent, as was the Melatonin use, so I don't know about long term use for people. I know that with our dog, from what I read and experienced, we had to gradually increase the dose in small increments over the months to get the same effect.
I will take a look at Valerian Root as well for future use - thanks for that tip.

(15,189 posts)Aren't these the pills that may cause thoughts of suicide too? Pot IS natural, and has no side effects. You'll forget all about suicide, and fall asleep.

And be concerned about being prosecuted by people like Eric Holder.

In fact, that's what I recommend to people that are having trouble sleeping or enduring muscle pain and tension. It's readily available, you don't have to know someone to get you a bag, and you don't have to wait for the brownies to cook

(60,010 posts)People on Beta Blockers and/or other high blood pressure meds need to research some of the suggested sleep aids, to make sure
ther are no unwanted side effects.
Valerian root works nicely, does not mess with my BP meds.

(30 posts)In the US in 2010 heroin killed over 2000, cocaine killed over 2000, scrip painkillers killed over 10,000, more than coke and heroin combined. Of course painkillers are much needed by patients, but maybe over distributed? I know 2 who died from pills in 2011.
Then the shootings, a majority of school shooters have been just starting, taking, or withdrawling from psych drugs. Trying to find if the Sandy Hook shooter was on psych drugs I found this link this am:

(776 posts)I guess I awoke & got dressed & took the dog for a walk. About a mile from home I thought I was at the dead end near the creek in the neighborhood I grew up in & left over 30 years ago. I felt like I was less than 10 years old & I was in my old neighborhood. Then I was confused & spinning about & trying to understand where the hell was the water?
Finally my dog was so concerned with my strange behavior he started trying to get thru to me. I felt like I woke up & was not in bed but pretty far from home, dressed with a dog at 3AM.
After my dog brought me back to reality I realized where I was & went straight home. The dog was happy to be in his bed & I went back to sleep.
That was the last time I took them. I miss Quaaludes & Tuinol (talk about dangerous).
