Zimmerman wants to delay trial for Martin shooting

Source: AP

Attorneys for the former neighborhood watch volunteer charged with shooting Trayvon Martin to death on Wednesday asked for more time to prepare his case, saying prosecutors had been slow to turn over evidence.

At the same time, Zimmerman's lead attorney, Mark O'Mara, renewed his request for donations to George Zimmerman's legal defense, which he said could cost up to $1 million.

"The state has virtually unlimited resources to prosecute George," O'Mara said on Zimmerman's defense fund website. "To finance his defense, however, George relies on the generosity of individuals who believe he is innocent."

Spokesman Shawn Vincent said Zimmerman's attorneys want his second-degree murder trial to be moved from June to November. Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty.

Oh, dear! Zimmerman's case must be worse than even I thought. He is hoping that witnesses' memories will be dimmed. This is not justice for the Martin family.

Zimmerman should just plead to a lesser charge and be done with it.

This is not a case with endless amounts of evidence. Should take less than a week to try (but I bet it won't; got to waste a lot of time basking in the media spotlight).

Isn't that the OTHER choice offered?

Otherwise, he could postpone his trial indefinitely, claiming he's waiting on additional contributions to his defense fund.

public opinion to soften on gun-happy attitudes. No point in delaying the inevitable. Right is right & wrong is wrong; getting more time isn't going to change that.

and the judge might be friends with his daddy, the retired judge, and for more evidence to find it's way to "lost" perhaps? I don't trust much of what passes for a judicial system there. It would make me feel differently if he got what's really due him and soon. The answer to the delay should be "Hell no!" For all the reasons mentioned above on this thread.

I had lost track of what was going on since it's been dragged out. All the shootings late last year and early this year along with the election. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the guy is acquitted. He'll be put in the same category as OJ, Drew Peterson, Scott Peterson, and Casey Anthony.

The attorneys might be asking for more time just to rack up hours. They might be seeing the amounts of dough being coughed up by the reich-wing sheep to ZimmerMurderer's "defense fund", and want their cut.

The existence of private defense attorneys is in opposition to the abstract concept of justice, in my opinion. The more money one has, the better and more defense attorneys one can afford, the better and more defense attorneys one has, the more likely one is to be found innocent.

Justice is supposed to be blind, but the existence private defense attorneys removes her blindfold.

Kind of screw things up too? They weren't thorough enough IMO of the case. Almost like the JonBenét case where they let people over the house before the body was found. Her father found her in the cellar even though the police had been at the house for some time. I think the prosecution doesn't mind the delay.
