Canada's oil output to more than double by 2030

Source: CBC

Canada's oil production will more than double in the next two decades, rising from 3.2 million barrels per day last year to 6.7 million barrels per day by 2030, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers said in its annual forecast Wednesday.

The oilsands, which are located mainly in Alberta, will account for most of that increase — with production from those sources growing from 1.8 million barrels a day in 2012 to 5.2 million barrels a day by 2030.

Production from conventional sources will increase from 1.2 million barrels a day to 1.4 million barrels a day by 2030.

Oil from offshore sites in Atlantic Canada will remain roughly unchanged at 200,000 barrels a day as existing sources dry up but new projects, such as ExxonMobil's Hebron and Husky's South White Rose, both oilfields off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, go online.

the "shoe-string" variety? If so, then that will lead to some serious environmental damage down the line.

It'll be nice to see oil coming from a democracy that respects the environment and has civil rights.

type of oil to extract from an environmental point of view. Yes it is plentiful, and costly, but the damage is something we simply don't know. In other words, the damage will not be known till decades later.

is not the same as tar sands in Canada.

It is hard to respect environment when processing tar sands. It is costly as it is to extract tar sands and only now is it worth it to extract it ($$$).

Of all the nations in the world, I trust Canada most of all to do this correctly with minimal environmental impact.

The mideast has a better track record with resource gathering of oil than Canada. I don't trust Canada on this issue.

and onto ships headed to India and China...

this toxic mix of oil, chemicals and water will leak from these pipelines and destroy US waterways and watersheds.

one goes across the top of MN and down to Superior WI and out on a ship on Lake Superior.

but hey... we won't have clean water but we'll have oil.

Most expensive to process. Horrid for the environment. Hope the Grolar bears have their new neighbors over for dinner.

Carry on.
