U.S. Moves to Seize Dietary Supplement From GNC Warehouses

Source: nyt

Federal prosecutors have asked judges in two states to authorize the seizure of more than 3,200 cases of controversial workout products from warehouses operated by GNC, the nation’s largest specialty retailer of dietary supplements.

With names like Jack3d and OxyElitePro, the workout products contain a stimulant called dimethylamylamine, or DMAA for short. In April, the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers that DMAA was an illegal dietary ingredient and that products containing the stimulant could elevate blood pressure, potentially leading to heart attacks.

After the agency’s warning, USPlabs, the maker of Jack3d and OxyElite Pro, said the company for business reasons had decided to stop making DMAA products. Some leading retailers withdrew their remaining stocks of DMAA products from store shelves, but GNC continued to sell its inventory.

Greg Miller, a spokesman for GNC, said in an e-mail on Friday that the company believed DMAA to be a “safe, legal dietary ingredient.”

everyone else stops selling it, and GNC says "we believe it's a safe, legal dietary ingredient." A big f you to the fda. Friggin' corporations and their audacity. Why didn't they take this to court? they just continue to sell it like, "Your not the boss of me." I think the corporations aren't worried too much about the teeth of the judicial system with the scotus rulings as of late.

Read the article in the OP to get detail that addresses some of that, and for more detail on how much compliance there has been and what the FDA has to go through to get more, check this link:

6. The FDA is an enforcement arm of the Pharamaceutical companies

That is it. They approve nearly anything big pharma concocts, regardless how dangerous, how questionable the testing and then allow them to flood the market with off label prescribing while fining them a pittance of their profits. They let them gouge us for years with bogus extensions on patents they have already made billions on and they shut down all OTC competition to any of their shit. You know what else raises blood pressure? Caffeine, Nicotine, artery clogging food and lots of pharmaceutical drugs. The FDA did a hatchet job a few years ago on electronic cigarettes with a report so trumped up, phony and misleading that it was almost universally mocked. But that gave states the impetus to start taxing it like it was tobacco and dangerous when there was no proof that it was. Fuck the FDA. They don't give a shit about consumers. They are owned by big Pharma.

They don't want anything OTC stepping on their toes. DMAA is too much like methylphenidate and mixed amphetamine salts which are the lifeblood of the ADD drug industry. Here are all the Ritalin and Adderall drugs the FDA have allowed on the market, Ritalin, Ritalin XR, Metadate, Focalin, Focalin XR, Daytrana, Concerta, Benzedrine, Dexedrine, Dextroamphetamine, the mixed amphetamine salts (Adderall, Adderall XR), the time released amphetamines, Vyvanse, Didrex, Dextrostat. I think I am forgetting some. Then there are the amphetamine like medications like phentermine, Tenuate Dospan, Meredia, Xenical and I am sure lots more. And then there is ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, the main ingredient in meth which is really just a way of inhaling the same meds millions of people take. Do you really think the FDA is trying to protect consumers from DMAA when they allow this cornucopia of speed on the market? Fuck them.
