Man accused of crimes against horses in El Dorado County
Source: Sacramento Bee
El Dorado County sheriff's officials say community efforts helped investigators identify and arrest a 56-year-old man in connection with the theft and death of one horse, and the attempted theft and sexual assault of another horse.
Bryon Baker (pictured), identified as a transient in the Cameron and Rescue areas, was taken into custody Wednesday after investigators conducted a probation search of his motor home, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
On Jan. 30, the Sheriff's Office began an investigation regarding a horse that was stolen from the stables of High Heart Ranch. The horse was found dead the same day in nearby Jay Hawk Cemetery. Investigators said the horse died from injuries sustained while under control of the individual who stole it.
Following the incident, Rescue residents posted reward fliers throughout the community and surrounding area. Sheriff's officials said that the posters and the tips they elicited helped lead to this week's arrest.

...and here we have herds of wild horses in Nevada...they are so noble and beautiful. So sad that someone would do anything to such a creature. I hope his sentence is to let him get trampled by a herd!

i just made that up, but i wonder about in how many of those cases where someone is found stomped to death in a stable, they had their pants down.

That horse was probably swishing it's tail invitingly.

(53,661 posts)They had to pass a law in WA after some characters thought it was a really great idea to make money. They had a little sex ring inviting men to have sex with horses being boarded by farmers.
The owners didn't know until one of the gentlemen didn't survive the experience. He died in the hospital of, well, figure it out yourself.
It came to the attention of lawmakers that there were no laws as no one had that kind of imagination before then. So they passed a law.
But I'm sure this gentlemen will be set free to do it again anytime now. Watch out for your kids, folks

(6,151 posts)develop a goiter on your privates that won't go away. Other creatures with souls of their own have suffered horribly, and you want to impress people with your wit???? You remind me of a radio newscaster who told about a bomb going off in an open market somewhere in the MidEast years ago, and he felt entitled to make salad crouton jokes about the humans who'd been blown to bits. You're not one damned bit better.

(25 posts)...but I also think that when something happens so horrifying that we don't know how to process it, some people address it with humor. I am absolutely horrified by this event, so much so that, as I said above, I'm speechless. I don't even know how to process that someone would do something so terrible to another living creature.
Anyway, I did find the irony of implying how the horse brought it on him/herself was rather humorous, considering things like this happen to (human) women all over the world every day, and this is often the reason given.

(6,151 posts)I don't care if a person is confused or temporarily unhinged somehow, there's never any excuse for laughing about serious tragedy. It's not a pratfall where some comedian deliberately slipped on a banana peel to amuse an audience. Such insensitivity to deep suffering is sociopathic. What are they going to do next, stand around and make fun of Trayvon Martin????????

(25 posts)non-human suffering with human suffering. I'm not one of them. But, many people I have encountered in my life (including my own parents) don't consider animals to have feelings, fear, anxiety, love, or happiness.

(6,151 posts)Although I'm a pretty fair bush doctor, once in my 14 years raising Egyptian Arabian horses, I did have to call in a vet to give a blood transfusion to an ailing newborn foal. There was absolutely no separating the mare either, because she considered herself lord of the universe and I was the only person she felt inclined to indulge at all.
Anyway, she did manage to insert herself between vet and foal and laid her ears back at him. He slapped her hard on the neck and yelled, "Move over, bitch!" I saw red and moved closer to him, swearing "Don't - Ever - Hit - My - Horse!" He claimed later that I had a big wrench in my right hand, though I don't remember it that way. After he drove 35 miles home and told his wife his version, she made him drive all the way back immediately and apologize to me, although he clearly didn't grasp the concept. Later when he sent me a bill and I sent back a check for the full amount, his wife returned the check to me and wrote on it, "You don't owe us anything." I was still enfuriated and sent it back with a note that I always paid my bills. She had to tear the check into pieces and send it back again before I calmed down.
That man had no business treating animals. I'd think better of almost anyone over those who lack empathy for other forms of life, because they're going to treat humans the same vile way. I wouldn't marry Martin Sheen himself (were he widowed) if I found out he had no empathy for animals. It betrays too many other underlying serious character flaws.

(6,151 posts)that I spread that vet's sorry tale all over the county at full voice, and his practice fell off until he eventually left the area. I don't know if his wife went with him. I surely wouldn't have stayed with such an SOB. That was over 20 years ago, and I still overheat every time I think about it.
Here's a quote another poster gave me from GBS: "The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them; thats the essence of inhumanity. George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)
