Murfreesboro mosque opponents take case to Tennessee Supreme Court

Source: The Tennessean

Plaintiffs opposed to the county’s approval of a mosque construction filed an appeal to the Tennessee Supreme Court Monday, their attorney Joe Brandon Jr. said.

The plaintiffs hope the state’s top court will agree to hear the case and overrule a Tennessee Appeals Court decision in late May that supported the way the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission approved plans for the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro to construct a bigger mosque on Veals Road off Bradyville Pike.

The appeals court had overruled a May 2012 decision by local Chancellor Robert Corlew III that the county failed to provide adequate public notice before the planning commissioners approved the mosque plans May 24, 2010. Corlew’s decision had meant the mosque approval was void and prevented the congregation from pursuing an occupancy permit.

A federal court in Nashville intervened at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice July 2012 and determined that the local case violated the congregation’s First Amendment religious freedom and land-use rights. The federal court ruling allowed the congregation to move into its new mosque August 2012, and this upset the plaintiffs.

Just playing the odds.
Because the US in fact does have those religious freedoms.

Sometimes those freedoms allow people to be carried away on the wind, and to land safely.

I don't understand why the US MSM has it in for Islam.

I consider all the surface froth about bin Laden, right through the freaky way the Dems played it, but none of that froth suggests that bin Laden lead a real religious movement. He didn't. The guy was a CIA operative from the get go. His family had/has ties with US movers and shakers, up to and including the president. So he wasn't any *ordinary* CIA operative, that's for fucken sure.

When all is said and done, I imagine that the CIA feels that it owes him.

I figure that "the killing of Osama" was pure theater, a "cynics night out" type of thing in DC, and that Osama has always been living in the comfort of Saudi royalty. Or has been dead - he had physical malfunctions.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometime an obvious violation of the first amendment is just a violation of the first amendment.

Who are they to judge?

A few isolated incidents in the world and they want to ban an entire religion?

I think its arrogant to think one religion/culture is superior to another.

Stupid bigots! These are the same people that like to tout the constitution all the time and are always calling themselves patriots when they are anything but! They are going to lose again and they are going to continue to lose, and I'll just sit back and laugh.

The Federal Court ruled in the mosque's favor based on 1st Amendment grounds. Tenn. courts cannot overturn a Federal Court ruling.
