Prosecution rests in Fort Hood shooting case

Source: Austin American-Statesman

After 89 witnesses over 11 days, prosecutors rested their case today, far earlier than originally predicted.

It’s not clear if Maj. Nidal Hasan, who has admitted to the Nov. 5, 2009, shooting, will present a defense. He told military judge Col. Tara Osborn that he had no plans to call the single witness remaining on his list, a religious conversion expert.

But Osborn ordered Dr. Lewis Rambo to be available in case Hasan changes his mind. Rambo is scheduled to arrive at Fort Hood this evening.

Tomorrow morning, Osborn said, court “will resume with the defense case, if any.”

He has defense counsel advising him, but you can't force a lawyer on a mentally competent person.

had attorneys and dismissed them though the judge ordered the attorneys to remain in order to help Hasan with court procedures.

him with cross examination strategy.

Hassan wants the death penalty. His lawyers have said (I think) they can't not ethically as a lawyer help him given his goal.

are two different things.
Frankly I think he should be given life without parole for each murder that way it ruins his chance to be a martyr and he can rot for the rest of his life know that he failed at it as along with his failing at being a decent person.
