Putin, Obama discussed Syria arms control idea last week: Kremlin

Source: Reuters

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Barack Obama discussed the idea of placing Syria's chemical weapons arsenal under international control on the sidelines of a G20 summit last week, Putin's spokesman said on Tuesday.

"The issue was discussed," spokesman Dmitry Peskov said by telephone. He would not say who raised the issue or give other details.

So many people were so convinced that Obama was just a warmongering idiot who got schooled by Putin.

The President had a P-L-A-N. And he and Kerry have executed it brilliantly. Watching several DU posters sputter about how this was supposedly "botched" is quite sweet as the plan continues to play out and succeed.

It think both president Obama and Putin worked this out. They both knew that something had to be done, and they both had to find a way to work this out, and get a plan that helped everyone through this mess, and they did just that. I sure hope it all works out.

Never thought I'd see that in this lifetime.
They couldn't tell us about it, that is without letting Assad in on the game plan.

Let us hope this works.
Oh, not to forget, if this does work it sure and heck will befuddle the republicans.

Was the British parliament's refusal to go along with war part of it?

And generating huge opposition in Congress and among the public?

And getting only a half-assed endorsement from the G20?

My take is that the administration has been stumbling through this crisis, and the Russian proposal provides an excuse for backing away from what is a hugely unpopular war plan.

If the proposal succeeds, the issue of chemical weapons will be resolved, but the Syrian civil war will continue.

The bottom line is we have an administration who realized that going to war was NOT in the public interest and was NOT in teh country's best interest. Who cares how they got out of it. Do you think Mitt Romney or John McCain would have tried to get out of it? Nope they would have "bomb bomb bombed Syria..."

Could have a brilliant plan or just plain executed things well.
Why is it so fucking easy to believe that President Obama botched this thing.
This place is damn near as badas redstate or free republic.

1. Obama can do no right.
2. Obama can do no wrong.

Both are pretty silly.

And there is a third way:

3. It's all about Obama! (as opposed to, say, the rise of the national security state or the grip of corporate capital on governance).

But that's part of the problem - people who DON'T think, because they're too busy scrambling to be the first to jump on the latest bandwagon.

Just remember that the same people who jumped the gun on this one also believed that Obama arbitrarily declared May 1st "Loyalty Day", was "taking control" of the internet when he added it as a means to message the public in an emergency, and held out Michelle Catalano's visit from county cops as PROOF!!! that the NSA is monitoring everyone's computer activity.

Some people learn from past mistakes - other just choose to be made fools of, over and over and over.

I must say it's appalling that some people are more interested in who gets credit than whether there will be peace.

What's more disturbing is that it doesn't seem to matter whether there is war or peace as long as proper credit is given.
